Issue Restoring Multiple Projects from Backup in DaVinci Res

PostThu May 01, 2025 2:36 am

Hi everyone,

I'm running into a strange and frustrating issue while trying to restore multiple project backups in DaVinci Resolve 20 Beta 2.

Here’s what I’ve done:

1. I backed up several project folders (*.diskdb) from my old system onto an external SSD.
2. On my new computer, I opened Resolve and clicked the **Restore** button in the Project Manager.
3. A dialog window appeared, asking me to select the `.diskdb` file.
4. I chose a storage location where the project should be restored.

The problem:
Only the *first* project was restored correctly.
When I tried to restore the *next* projects, Resolve didn't create a new project entry. Instead, it copied all the files and data into the **previously restored project’s folder**, effectively merging them or overwriting content.

Now I have a mess — multiple projects' data merged into one, and the other projects aren't showing up as individual entries in the Project Manager.

So my questions are:

- Am I doing something wrong?
- Is there a specific step I’m missing when restoring multiple projects?
- Or is this a bug in the Resolve 20 Beta?

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’d also love to know if anyone else has experienced similar issues.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards,
Christophe
