Multicam Audio Changes that I Don't Like!

PostMon May 05, 2025 5:41 pm

This is more of a request to restore an option for an old multicam workflow that I really liked, rather than reporting a bug.

For context, I usually record audio from a DJI mic directly into A camera, and my B cam has scratch audio for syncing. Audio in is also split by channel, with L channel being Lav 1 and R channel being Lav 2.

In 19 and earlier, I could usually just sync the two clips, pick A cam audio as the audio angle, duplicate it onto track 2, and then use audio configuration to set track 1 to only channel 1 (L channel) and track 2 to only channel 2 (R channel). That way, I have each lav on their own individual track.

Now, the way it works, is even if I pick the audio angle, it's still considering it as something like a "compound clip" kind of deal, and I can't use audio configuration to split the channels.

My current workaround, which is FINE but def takes way more steps, is to open the multicam clip in a timeline, delete the scratch audio, go back to the original timeline, merge the multicam audio into a single track, then duplicate it, split it, and link everything back together. Essentially went from 2 steps to 6 steps, for every single multicam clip!

So, it'd be great to have an option in the new selection window of how multicam handles audio to use the old workflow. Or, if there's a better workaround that I'm not thinking of, I'd love those methods.

Thanks for your consideration / thanks for your tips!
