DavRes 20 Beta 3: crash while optimizing neural engine

PostTue May 06, 2025 5:29 pm

First: I know it's beta! ;)

Since beta 1 optimizing neural engines is crashing. See the window "Optimizing engine 1of 81" for a few seconds and then it shuts down with no messages. See log files (attached!).

The crash of DaVinci Resolve v20.0.0b.0038 on my system is clearly caused by libnvinfer.so.10, which is part of the NVIDIA TensorRT library. This library is used for AI features like the Neural Engine.

In my ResolveDebug.txt, we see the typical segfault (Signal Number = 11):

/opt/resolve/libs/libnvinfer.so.10 ...
Signal Number = 11

This means that the inference library for AI models is crashing, as soon as Resolve tries to initialize features like Magic Mask, Auto Reframe, Voice Isolation, etc.
The logs also show multiple errors about missing .so libraries:

libDeckLinkAPI.so
libBlackmagicRawAPI.so
libScannerAPI.so
python2: not found

I do not understand this because installing DavRes 19.1.4 still works fine.
My system info shows:

NVIDIA Driver: 570.144
CUDA: 12.8

For me that's recent and fine, but Resolve ships its own version of TensorRT, which might be out of sync with my system.
Conclusion from my log:

The crash is clearly caused by an incompatible or defective libnvinfer.so.10 (TensorRT 10.x). And this even happens with version 20 beta 1 to 3 of Resolve, which should already be more optimized for AI.

Hope that helps a bit...

I tested this on our supported Rocky 8.6 distro, with an RTX 2070 Super and NVIDIA driver 570.144 and there was no issue with neural optimization.

I suspect your issue is somehow Mint related.

I have the same issue on both my machines as well.

One with an RTX 3090 and the other one an RTX 5080.
Latest drives on Arch Linux. (570.144)

I've never had issues with previous versions, the behavior started with the 20 beta versions.

It sounds like the problem is a system version of libnvinfer.so.10 is getting loaded before Resolve's own installed version.
I wonder if setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to find the Resolve lib first would help.

I never had problems to install DavRes!
I'm using the studio version since 12.x always under Linux Mint and always with makeresolvedeb latest version!

This happens since the 20 beta 1. And Rocky 8.6 is not the holy grail and it is outdated!
This issue consists also under Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu itself and Archlinux, respectively installed on the same machine!

Anyone who might be interested, I was able to get a working (not fully tested) 'Studio 20b3' running in a Rocky Linux 8.6 Distrobox container.

I run Bluefin (atomic Universal Blue, Fedora 42 Linux) DX version which comes with the nvidia drivers preinstalled, and which for the most part works pretty good.

I 'sat down' with Gemini 2.5 pro for a couple of days and worked through trying to install Studio/Free 20b3 on several flavours of Distrobox, but so far I was only able to get the 'Rocky Linux 8.6' flavour working (although the success with this version gives my some possible ideas about how to get it running on some other distro, but that is for another week as my studio key is too close to my 'weekly quota' of reinstalls, and going over means I'm locked out of resolve for a week.)

I tried to make sure Gemini was kept up to date with my successes & failures, so in the end, if/when I had success, it could write up an install guide.

Anyway, here's a link to a guide I left on the Bluefin forum.
