Switching editors

Hi there,

I need my editor to transfer all her progress to me so that I can take over editing and finish it off. However, I am getting the "Media Offline" message when I open the drp file in DaVinci. I understand that I need to re-link the files. I do have the files on a flash drive, but they are in their raw unedited form.
How do I take over editing for this project and link the media? There are also audio files of course. If I input all my raw files into the laptop I'm using, would it be incredibly painstaking to go through and link them, or is it a simple process? Do I need something more from my editor and her laptop files?
I'd really appreciate any help!
Thanks

Hi!
What you’re asking about is easy. First, put all your media files where you want them to live - which could be on that flash drive if it’s fast enough.

Next, open your Resolve project and press the red chain-link icon. In the Edit Page it’s at the upper left corner.

Finally, browse to where you’ve put your media files. That should do it.

You might have to tell it to do an exhaustive search if it tells you it didn’t find everything and gives you the option. Don’t worry - it’s not particularly slow.

Now for what you DIDN’T ask about: you say you’re new to Resolve. What editing system are you familiar with? If you know Premiere or old Final Cut you’ll pretty quickly get it with just a brief tutorial or two. And if you’re familiar with FCPX then the Cut Page should make sense.

BUT Resolve has its own terminology and UI style that’s different enough from other systems that a tutorial and/or the Resolve Editor’s Guide are quite useful.

Do as Joe said for relinking,
or
Get a .dra from your editor (in project manager, right click on a project->Export Project Archive..).
.dra will include all the mediafiles, timelines etc and all is already relinked and setted for you. (To restore .dra, right click on empty space in Project Manager>Restore Project Archive)
