Timeline Playback Resolution Changes Viewer Size

Hey guys, I can't find a solution for this and hoping someone might be able to help. When I change the timeline playback resolution to half or quarter the image in the viewer shrinks to half or quarter size as well. This is only happening in one project and I can't figure it out!
I'm using 20.0B Build 38 but this issue was happening before the update.
Thank you!

I have seen enough weirdness over the years with Timeline Playback Resolution to recommend you solve this by NOT using it. Keep that always at Full.

Instead, use one of the myriad other options to improve performance.

Hey Jim,
What other options would you suggest to improve performance. Until now timeline playback resolution had been the best option for me. I'm running a 2020 M1 Macbook Pro.

Thank you!

Check your timeline settings. Make sure your format tab and input resolution match your output resolution. If they don't match, set the "fit" option in the output tab. If the resolutions are mismatched and you don't set "fit", the output size will be larger than your working resolution, resulting in empty space.

Thanks mate, this was the issue! Lifesaver, now I'm back to 25fps playback and can see my shots.

Cache, Proxies, Optimized Media and Render in Place are all available immediately.

And of course, better hardware may be a longer term solution (depending on what you currently have).

If you shoot RAW, there are additional Decode options to ease playback in the Project Settings' Camera RAW panel.
