Feedback- Relink Media moved

PostThu May 15, 2025 5:00 pm

Here's some feedback on an issue I had this morning with V20-3

This morning I had a "Media Offline" problem. (this seems to be a very common issue in DR that I see complaints online about). So I right clicked on a clip in the media pool to "relink media", but it's gone, can't find it. So I tried to find it by clicking on the clip in the timeline, still no "relink media". Then I went into the media page, hoping to find it there, but no luck. Very frustrating. At this point I went to google and found a YouTube video explaining that it has now been moved to a sub-menu under "clip operations".
It was frustrating that you moved it and I was completely lost to fix my unlinked media.

On a similar note, "media offline" seems to be an issue that comes up more than it should as I see on one of the DR Facebook groups. Many, many times I've seen poor souls looking for help because their media seems to have disappeared from DR, and yet they claim that nothing has changed, they have not moved the media and their drives are online and functioning. And then relinking does not work. Usually it seems to be a cache issue in the end. I don't know the nuts and bolts of it, but it would be nice to never see "media offline" again.

Deleted Cache that Resolve is trying to use will show as Media Offline.

Something for users to be aware of. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

There is a Relink icon on the Media page and also at the top of the Cut page. It appears to have been missed out on the Edit page. ;)

On the Media Page, select the clip, then right-click and choose Clip Operations, then use the drop-down to choose Relink Selected Clip.

You can also assign a shortcut to the Relink Selected Clip command through Keyboard Customization, and it will work on the Media page. You can also use it on a clip in a bin on the Edit page.

I do think it should be more discoverable.

Agreed. They moved it to a place that’s decidedly not discoverable.

I couldn't find it either. Someone had to tell me.

But now that I know, this change is a good one. Cleans up the menu a bit to have those several options in a secondary menu.

Efficiency outranks Intuitive, I say. :)

I had to search to find it, then I finally did... Then I forgot were it was, then I had to find it again.
