Slow and unstable (and very simple) Fusion clips

Three years ago I edited a TV documentary of mainly archive footage on Resolve 15-17 and a pretty old iMac 27" 2015. For panning and zooming of photographs I used After Effects because I was used to it, rendering to 422 and importing. It worked mostly just fine. Images were around 4000-5000 pixels wide, rendering to 1080p.

I need to edit a new documentary with the same specs, and thought I'd finally learn my way around Fusion so I can avoid jumping back and forth between applications every time I need a timing adjustment in the animation and have less media files to deal with.

I downloaded Resolve 19 on a brand new MacBook Pro M4 and managed to create very basic animations, panning and zooming, with ImagePlane3D, Camera3D and Renderer3D.

I am pretty underwhelmed by two issues: viewport redraws are *extremely* slow, especially compared to what AE was doing on a machine that is 10 years older. Also, after working for less than an hour, I've had three instant crashes to the desktop when adjusting node translations, either with the viewport widget or by modifying values in the Inspector.

Is it related to version 19? Is it a known issue with Resolve in general for this type of work? Can anything be done about this or should I stick to my AE workflow?

Thanks.
