Hundreds of voice clips in my timeline folder

PostWed May 21, 2025 8:23 pm

There are not only timelines in my TIMELINES FOLDER.

There are hundreds of audio tracks. Every little voiceover test I did is there - even if I deleted the test right away after making it.

It's such a mess I can't find my timelines any more and must scroll endlessly.

Questions:

1. How can I prevent such audio files to be stored there?

2. 99% of those files I do not need - how can I clean this up without deleting audio tracks I actually use in projects/ timelines?

Select the target Bin prior to recording or create a Smart Bin for Timelines.

Enable the Use Timelines Bin preference:
Resolve Preferences > User > Editing > Smart bin for timelines

If Smart Bins are not exposed in the Media Pool, via the Additional Options (3 dots) menu select "Show Smart Bins".

Alternatively, in the Smart Bins area of the Media Pool, right click and select "Add Smart Bin".

In the Create Smart Window configure the following options:
Media Pool Properties = Clip Type = Is = Timeline
Fairlight Studio Console 3 Bay • Merging Hapi • Anubis • Merging Premium VAD (3.5.0) ↔︎ Lawo VSC (1.0.0)
Mac Pro 7,1 Rack • Resolve Studio 20.0 • macOS 15.5 (24F74) ➩ 11" iPad Pro (M4) 1TB • iPadOS 18.5 (22F76)

Thank you, Reynaud.

Do I select this target bin while being in Fairlight?

Yes, select the target Bin when performing media actions such as recording, bouncing, and importing.

I am having difficulties to setting this up in the Media Pool in Fairlight.

Questions:

1. How do I define where a new audio clip I record will be stored?

2. Why are files I create recording voice overs being kept in a bin even if I delete it in Fairlight. I have found "remove unused clips" and now I lost all my audio clips and all my video that I have collected over the past months. How can I remove just the clips that I delete in the timeline?

I would be grateful to find a way to do this.

thanks!

Resolve 19 and prior:
Resolve Project Settings > Capture and Playback > Capture > Save Clips to

Resolve 20:
Project Settings > Master Settings > Working Folders > Project media location

While Clips may be deleted on the Timeline, the source media remains available in the Media Pool as they may still be in use in other Timelines or other users in a collaborative environment.

Source media should still be available in the target path on the storage volume set in Project Settings.
