Hi!

I have a documentary timeline where many clips are edited from hours of footage. I want to open some clips in their edited length without rendering in After Effects. What's the easiest way to achieve this?

I tried markers on the clips but I guess you need to render the clip for them to show in After Effects?

Just to reiterate say I have a clip that is 5 seconds on the timeline but the original length of clip is 30 minutes. What's the quickest way to open the 5 second edit of the original clip in AE without rendering?

If mac - Export an xml, import that to premiere, select all clips and copy and paste that timeline into an AE comp

If PC, you can use smart import in AE I believe to import the xml directly (feature got removed on Mac due to some 32/64bit issues I believe)

Alternatively you can use the media manager in resolve to trim your timelines clips (without transcoding) with or without handles and then import those into after effects, but it won’t be conformed in the same way.

Or do it manually and just note down the in point and out point timecodes of the clip you want to open.
