Resolve reading AVI audio ?

hello all,

I've been using the latest Resolve 19.1.4 for a year or so, at home on a Mac and at work on Windows.
Started NLE with Avid in 1996 and since 2010 I've edited with FCP and Premier Pro.
For my workflow, Resolve shines above all. (I started 50 years ago with tape to tape) :)
Anyway in my Resolve work environment I have been tasked with editing a huge amount of AVIs.
Resolve can read these files with no problems on the timeline, but NOT the audio.
I would rather not transcode via Handbrake due to the time / number of files.
I am aware that BMD probably won't spend resources remedying this legacy issue...

Any advice / workarounds greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Rob

Transcoding the AVIs sounds like the obvious solution. If only the audio needs conversion, that should run pretty fast.
Handbrake has a queue feature I have never used, but batch conversion sounds like a job for a command line tool like ffmpeg and a bit of scripting.

Try to understand why this audio is not supported, avi is a quite old container, check what audio codec was used for that videos. You could use media info free tool to check it, then like suggested you can use ffmpeg and batch to open avi, re wrap video without encoding to a better container (mxf, mov) and recompress to better codec audio.
Ones you have find the right parameters it’s a matter of time of audio encoding.

I am having no issues with sound from old MiniDV AVI files from 2004 in Davinci Resolve 19.1.4 on my Win 10 PC. So the question is, what exactly is inside your AVI container files?
