Bug: beta 4, animated subtitles X position not honored

PostThu May 22, 2025 8:19 am

First time I've been using the new animated subtitles but didn't find this reported, so maybe it's new in beta 4?

As you adjust the "Center: X" position of any of the animated subtitles, the text does not move. If you adjust Y position it moves; X it does not.

If you open the effect in Fusion, the X position is honored there. You can adjust the position further, and see the change. Return to the edit page, and the new X position number is there, but the actual position has not changed.

Relaunch Resolve, and the number is reset to 0.5.

EDIT: even weirder… if you select an individual subtitle on the track, then you CAN adjust the X position, and it only affects that one. However if you adjust the Y position, it effects all of them. If you select multiple and change the X position, it's not honored.

The only workaround I found is to create a separated timeline with just the animated subtitles (I only need the words to appear as they're said, no fancy colours or anything), and then to import the timeline with the composite set to Add. Obviously you won't get nice shadows, but at least I can move and resize everything this way...

So if there's no other video on the timeline, you can move the X position? Or you don't need to move the X position in the subtitles because you just move the entire composite once its comped on top of the original video… is that what you mean?

If so, good workaround.
