By my memory, this is the fastest full release of any version going back to DR 15 at least. BMD must be confident that this is a solid release to go this quickly imo.

Well it has had 5 Public Beta's (PB4 had to be re-released with a fix that should have been PB4.1) but only in 2 months. Previously there have been something like 6 PB's over 6 months. That said the Resolve user base is huge as in several million, apparently. (I forget where I saw this figure a couple of years ago, but I remember it being a reliable source)

There are a LOT of people [about to be] using V20. More than used the Public Beta's any defects will show up fairly quickly. If you are not halfway though any projects or doing anything complex/critical, I would go for V20.

Otherwise, wait a month, watch this forum for reported problems, and/or wait for V20.1 If there isn't a V20.1 by the first week of July, or a reported defect that will directly affect you, then there are unlikely to be any major problems in V20 for you.

I download the PB's on to a 2nd PC to evaluate and run some older projects on, I will put V20.0 on that for a week or so while monitoring the forum for reported problems.

Is the GLIB finaly updated inside the Windows Version. The Vulnerability of Davinci Resolve is known since a long time?

I personal run still Fairlight as standallone on Windows 7 and for professional work Blackmagic still did not include neccessary features like ARA, Piano Roll, Midi Channels . Use of more than one external controlers. Absolute no need of AI here. All this features can be done with a Fairlight EVO so its very clear that Blackmagic have the knowledge. Still no real time broadcasting is possible.

Fairlight EVO on Tour

There is no realy financial profit to rescue the old history but shure some Fairlite EVO users that still exist will be happy if Companies respect their own history and free the knowledge behind it. Shure the Youtube promo guys impress in some way with effects that a motorised fader moves and they can wheel a lots of knobs but the heard still is the Editor.

In fact its not a big thing because even the dlls from Windows 7 for a stand allone Fairlight work if you move them to a modern Davinci Resolve instalation and without midi channels and Midi Editor and Piano Roll Blackmagic never will be accepted by professionals and users as a full featured DAW.

AI mostly works just with 8 Channels even the imported iZotope/NI AI. But professional production needs often more than 1000 channels and why should we use not our Templates for this. Other High accepted DAWs come with a bunch of Templates.

Shure now some visual guys cry that they did have long experience with Audio but check exact their productions they have done.

Hope marketing and developers listen somehow to the guys that bought 2 Fairlight EVOs waiting 2 years for shipping and when they got their Fairlight at least after 14 Days Fairlight was sold to Blackmagic and any support was dienied. In Europe this way you do not make friends. Major players in Europes car industries like BMW or mercedes build own departements for users of their historic cars. History and prevent history for European culture is important.

I add a picture of my Fairlight EVO its a historical one because its the last one that ever was shipped by Fairlight before Blackmagic töök over. Sorry i do not speak any word of English. This fairlight goes on tour with instructors and public demonstrations.

With the amount of new features in v20, 2 months feels a bit... rushed.
Anyways, I've had my share of bad experience when upgrading - Resolve 19 started working for me AFTER 19.1 so I'm not in a rush of updating. But I look forward to using some of the new features.

I’ll monitor this thread for the next few weeks to see if it’s safe to use after an especially important shoot late June. Definitely eager to use some of the new features for that project.

Gee, it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one wondering if there are consequences to updating right now simply because I'm finding it difficult to wait to play with new features. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After updating to version 20 - stabilization turned into some kind of nightmare, frames that had little camera mobility after pressing the stabilization function, the mobility only increased, provided that I tried all 3 different stabilization options offered by the program. After using the AI live trim function for music tracks, sometimes after exiting and entering the program back, the track stops playing or becomes completely unavailable. The function to re-find a file in the media library does not give results. The problem also occurs with frame images with a variety of manipulations with settings that are not related to each other. For example, I work with a frame in the Fusion tab and then in the Edit tab I change the frame speed by slowing it down and black spots appear in the corners of the frame and all sorts of black inclusions appear along the frame outline - the picture becomes as if it was beaten into a black hole. How is this even possible?

If you're totally in a bind and need transcription now, you can try ReaSeech for Reaper DAW (will post link below).

The next version will probably be a payed upgrade so they rushed a lot to release this full "BETA" 20 version..
More quality over quantity will be much appreciated, but looks like BMD have taken the other route. What a shame..

I've already felt like Resolve was full of half-baked features and nothing was well thought out, but it got exponentially worse after this V20 "upgrade" (using the term loosely). Blackmagic apparently has no interest in addressing the concerns of their users so it might be worth testing out some other options... that's what I'm currently doing.

Davinci Resolve 20 is officially out

PostSun Jun 01, 2025 5:57 pm

I had something strange happen on my latest version of 19. My timeline for 4K PQ had good audio, but my HD BT.1886 timeline in the same project seemed to clip some audio and had noticeable audio noise which isn’t normal for me. I installed version 20 to get to the new audio tools. So far I’m okay. Currently rendering.

Edit
Just an observation, the BT.1886 audio upload to YouTube was good; it was the Vimeo upload that audio was noticeably different than I expected.

Starting a new project in version 20 for the first time. Working on Fairlight to add Noise Reduction using defaults and had to Force Quit after I tried to back out of the effect since it didn’t seem to work well.

Don’t recommend this for client work yet but unfortunately I’m there trying to do a video from Sunday’s shoot.

This version is rocking it IMO. Granted, I haven't done any really big projects yet but despite some beta1 audio bugs that have surely been ironed out, I'm finding this to be the fastest Resolve yet. The other bugs I've seen are minor and don't really affect anything.

That seems to be the feedback, Don't use V20 yet.
I would have preferred another couple of months of Beta's.

Normally I have one PC running the Public Beta's and my main machine on the "current" Release Version which only update a week or so after the new Release Version comes out having monitored this forum.

This time I am not moving off V19 for any client work. I might move to V20.01 (or 20.1) if the response to that is better.

Lightbox access has been removed from V20 on the IPad.
I have no words, as a paying customer who needs the flexibility of the M4 IPad I find this incredibly enraging and senseless.
I am basically being forced to buy new hardware and software.

Pure gatekeeping.

Davinci Resolve 20 is officially out, is it stable?

PostThu Jun 05, 2025 9:24 am

I have only used it a few times "Premier (free) from the App Store" since the update but it seems solid enough. I did have a crash when I was creating a 2 Polygon Mask -> Transform Node in Fusion, but thats probably because its not the Studio version. I was doing this to "Move" stuff out of the background and its a cool method I had never seen until recently. Good luck everyone.

Overall, I would say yes its stable, but I have seen a crash so if you can get by for a while without upgrading, you probably want to wait until the 2 or 3 bug patch sets have released?
