The main big issue with audio for offline editing
There're two big issue with audio in Davinci Resolve which is the main reason why is not good for offline editing in big projects.
I mean big series, documentaries or movies, which needs to go through a Protools session. Fairlight is good, but many audio post production only work with Protools. And there's 2 main problems to send the timeline there.
- Doesn't have solutions to go back to the original audio files once synced properly.
If the audio and video doesn't have the same timecode, which means you synced by Waveform or Manually, once you finished your edit, you can't go back to the original audio files by reconforming, just because the TC is taking in consideration is the video timecode, not the audio.
If should be an option here to select a different timecode, like an auxiliary or audio timecode.
Still, if you have the same timecode from audio and video, and you synced, once you want to go back by relinking, the timeline doesn't show anything in the audio, because you need to set again which track needs to be use.
So, neither option is usefull at the moment.
- Doesn't export only metadata to protools (AAF without media)
In many occations I want to export only an AAF with the metadata for Protools, not the media. Same way I can export an XML, DRT or AAF from a timeline. This option doesn't exist and is very usefull so the audio post production facility can use the original audio files and relink any track they want.
I think for many professionals is a turn off when you have to choose an NLE to handle a large project.
I care less about any AI thing DR can offer, but more about proper tools to colaborate.
