Paint brush strokes just entirely disappear after a restart

PostFri May 30, 2025 8:12 pm

I took the time to tediously paint out some things in a moving frame inside of Resolve Studio Fusion page, and saved everything, and Resolve after restarting just...disappeared the strokes. OR repositioned it somewhere entirely off. I did have "All frames" selected. Anyone know why? Is this a v20 beta 4 issue only?

We need some more info to help diagnose the problem, since the paint node seems to working fine in V20 B4 for all the people in my studio.
Be aware that any node from the Fusion tab can be Copy/Pasted into a text viewer to see if the strokes are still there. Or if the node isn't too big, you can Paste it into one of these forum posts between "Code" modifiers (button at the top of the edit window)so we can see what is going on. Also useful are what other nodes are connected and maybe an Image of the flow (added with the "Upload attachment" tab at the bottom of the edit window)

Oh I had no idea of that. I wanted to attach the text file but it says extension txt is not allowed. I have no idea why the strokes keep moving somewhere else or disappearing from where they were placed. It's driving me nuts.

Well, I thought I'll just post it from Google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dxngmV ... sp=sharing

I have no idea what anything inside of this means.

Hmm.. Yes, something wrong there.

The Modifier Tracker seems to be somewhat broken in supplying the correct position to the paint strokes. This seems to be a Save or Copy/Paste problem, as when you first call the Modifier Tracker it seems to behave , but when you Save or Copy/Paste the paint strokes get lost to the point where the node won't work at all.....
A work around for the moment would be to disconnect the Paint Group from the Modifier Tracker (Right click - Remove Tracker_1) and actually use a full Tracker node and use "Connect To" to attach the Paint Group to the tracker position (or offset position so you can adjust as necessary).

Thanks, I think that's the thing I'll need to do then. I was halfway thinking of just using some "patch" by tracking a planar tracker and linking a cover up patch to the node with corner pin. But that won't work because of blurring and movement. With this node I sent a txt file of, I was not copying or pasting it to anything else. The node graph was only [MediaIn] --> [Paint1] --> [Mediaout], that's it.

I have had further investigations and have found that the Paint node by itself will cause problems if there is not a Source node specified in the Modifier Track 1 Tracker Source.
So when the node is copy and pasted, then the Paint node will not behave.. until you set a new Source node Tracker Source of the Modifier Tracker.
So when I did that, the Paint node worked but the paint strokes were far from the position of the Tracker. Using the X/Y Offset controls at the bottom of the Track Modifier, I could return the Paint stroke Group back to anywhere in the frame.
When you look at the Tracker Source in the Track Modifier of your Paint node, is it pointing to MediaIn or is it blank?
Did you change the Background it was affecting, or were you using Proxies either in the Fusion tab or out in other parts of Resolve?
If you use the X/Y Offset controls , can you you return the Paint strokes back to where they belong?
If you Save and Quit then restart Resolve, are they still where you left them?

Thanks, I will look into this later tonight and see what source node in modifier reads. I am pretty sure I went into the modifier and fed it mediain1, the video source. I didn't change anything to the background it was affecting and no proxies. This is all b-raw footage and it works very smoothly without me ever needing proxy workflow.
