DVR 20.0 Generate Subtitles accuracy issue

PostSat May 31, 2025 1:22 pm

I just did my first video in DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.0. Generating subtitles is no longer very accurate. I usually only have to make one edit manually on my clients bumper. But this video I found several areas where it just missed words or full sentences. It is also getting a lot of words wrong now. This is going to add a lot of time to my edits going forward.

I'm on Linux, see below for details.

I'm running into the same issue. Tried to make a lyric video, but the first verse is blank! The crazy thing is that the second very doesn't seem any better to my ears, but that one was transcribed.

On a video I edited this morning it was adding words to areas no no dialogue at all. Accuracy is right out the window at the moment. I have to spend time watching the entire edit to catch all the mistakes. I hope they figure this out soon. I do subtitles on 3 or 4 projects a week, this is a real time suck now.

I use DR to generate surtitles tracks for shorts/reels, for longer formats I use whisperAI

Similar with this example. No subs for first half of song, 2nd half accurate subs. Voice Isolation at 40% was used to reduce background music, this does create minor distortion with the vocals but it is still very understandable.

At the beginning it's transcribing at 175X which isn't believable, and no subs are created, the 2nd half transcribing reduces to 75x which is more expected. Can't show the full video for copyright reasons but 2nd half transcribes correctly.

It's even worse when there are different languages. If someone says a couple of words in, say, Spanish or whatever language, there could be 30 mins of dialogue in English after that, but DR AI transcribes it all, translating into Spanish. That if if you set language to Auto. If you set it to English anything in a different language is ignored

I use WhisperAI; it's not perfect either, but the results are much more accurate, especially when you have mixed languages, which is inevitable if you're dealing with travelling videos.

Also, it would be nice to have a way to remove capitalisation and punctuation.

DVR Studio 19 was WAY more accurate. Not perfect, but very little editing required.
