Fairlight + DAW controller integration

PostThu Jun 05, 2025 12:08 pm

First post. Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

My studio is split between video and audio production, and I have a Console 1 Fader (by Softube) controller that I'd like to use in the Fairlight page of Resolve, but the integration is not as I expected.

With the Console 1 plugin on each audio track/channel in Fairlight, while it does control the volume (within the plugin), it doesn't move the fader in Fairlight. I expected that it would.

I've tried to set up the Console 1 Fader as both a HUI and MCU device.

I know the Presonus Faderport (for example) does have corresponding moves on the both the hardware unit and the fader in the Fairlight (using MCU protocol) - according to this video:

What am I missing to get the (Softube) Console 1 Fader to exhibit the same behavior?

Thanks for your time and expertise.

Suggest contacting Softube and requesting improved integration with Resolve (as they have done with other hosts).
Fairlight Studio Console 3 Bay • Merging Hapi • Anubis • Merging Premium VAD (3.5.0) ↔︎ Lawo VSC (1.0.0)
Mac Pro 7,1 Rack • Resolve Studio 20.0 • macOS 15.5 (24F74) ➩ 11" iPad Pro (M4) 1TB • iPadOS 18.5 (22F76)

Just to clarify: This type of behavior is based on the developer of the controller (Softube, PreSonus, etc), and not Resolve?

I thought (perhaps wrongly) that if one controller behaved a certain way - like the PreSonus Faderport in the video I linked - that other controllers using the same protocol would behave the same way. But I guess not?

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a setting within Resolve, or some other type of workflow issue that was causing my problem. If it's hardware / developer based, then that's help to know.

Thanks for any additional insight.

Reynaud is right. Any Midi controller that supports the MCU or HUI protocol should work with DVR out of the box. It'll give you basic transportation plus some automation control. DVR faders will work in both directions. Moving a fader on the controller moves the fader in DVR and vice versa. I am using the X-Touch One, which does exactly this.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.
