Magic mask freezing rendering help please

PostFri Jun 06, 2025 6:38 am

What I did, for better or worse.
1) I applied magic mask to a remote grade unknowingly.
2) During render when it started tracking clips I didn't want it to I canceled the tracking.
3) I canceled the render.
4) I deleted all nodes with magic mask\
5) I tried to render again. AI Magic mask tries to track and does nothing so I cannot render!

PLEASE FIX!!!!!!!

What I've tried.
Installing and reinstalling Davinci resolve.
Copying project to a new one.
Deleting render cache.
Resetting all grades and nodes, all layers. I've reset everything you can reset. There's no reason magic mask should track during rendering (it says there's no frames to track but keeps trying). There's data in there that cannot be cleared. I cannot render.

Magic mask is broken.

Davinci resolve 20.0

Edit: By changing the export timeline resolution it worked... Still, I really hope the programmers fix this.

I am having the same issue.
System info:
Windows 11
Davinci Resolve 20.0
Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
128GB RAM

It had been running smoothly since the transition to Beta and Now 20. I added some light magic mask Color Correction work onto some clips in my timeline. Talking Head videos, not a lot of movement.
Made a few renders out just fine, and even had the AI Magic Mask Tracking box show up during my renders, but it actually did the tracking and rendered out eventually. No problem.

But now that same dialogue comes up and just gets stuck. I've tried the follow:
-Rebooting
-Redoing all my tracking inside the Color Page
-Turning off all the nodes with Magic Mask
-Deleting all the nodes that had magic Mask
-Completely deleting all color work whatsoever in the timeline
-Changed timeline resolution in both Timeline settings and in export
-Cleared all cache
-Used Smart Render Cache

Nothing is allowing me to export this video any more.

This feels like a bug to me.

I figured it out on my end. Still feels like a bug though.

The long and short of it is that I disabled a couple of clips and kept them in the timeline that had the magic mask in their color grading.

As soon as I deleted that disabled clip, it rendered with no problem whatsoever.

This for sure feels like a bug. Since you can't see disabled clips in the color window, you'll never be able to get rid of the mask. And apparently the something in Resolve wants to still render out that disabled clip, but since it can't see anything to render out, it's going to sit there, waiting for it to magically appear (which it never will. This needs to be fixed.

So, I repeat, the solution is:

Look through your timeline for disabled clips that have the magic mask applied to them.
-Delete that disabled clip,
OR
-Enable it and delete the Magic mask from the color window.

You should be able to manage all the caching from magic mask interface itself.

I recall seeing this issue in V19 as well. To me it’s a bug. Resolve shouldn’t try to render the magic mask of a disabled clip.
