Importing images without scaling/cropping at all

PostSat Jun 07, 2025 9:36 pm

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and am struggling a bit with importing photos.

Either the photos are cropped or are imported scaled far too large.

Example: I have a FullHD project (1920x1080) and want to import a background in the same size. The default image import scaling “Scale entire image to fit” works perfectly here because it doesn't actually have to scale or crop anything.

However, I also import smaller graphics, which are then usually scaled to window height. Of course, it's no fun having to zoom them all down manually until they fit. Zoom 1x1 (XxY) does not work with this setting either.

So do I always have to integrate the large, screen-filling graphics with the default settings first and switch to “Center crop with no resizing” before importing the smaller graphics?

The bottom line is that I only want to import the photos in their original size and I don't want Davinci to do any scaling/cropping on them.

Thank you!

PS: Are the settings for “Output scaling” relevant for me in any way?

Image scaling is covered in the manual, chapter 11 Image Sizing and Resolution Independence, page 283

Output Scaling is covered in the manual, chapter 6 Project Settings, page 145.
