LG OLED C3 Reference monitor

I have read that the LG C3 is a very good option to use for grading.

Just by chance, eBay happens to have a range from 42 up to 55 inches.

My question is that there are numbers after the C3 - how important are they?

Or, as I can afford the 55", should I just get and enjoy?

Near as I could tell, the only difference in the model number is the screen size.

The C3 is a WOLED display. At high brightness, the color gamut is limited because it uses white pixels to achieve the brightness. I am not sure it is a great monitor for use as a reference.

The Sony A95L is a QD-OLED display so it does not have that issue. The A95L's Professional Mode is factory calibrated to match the look of Sony's professional BVM-HX and PVM-X Series monitors. Of course the A95Ls are much more expensive.

Of course none of the above is a true calibrated grading monitor. I have an A95L and it looks darn good to me.

Why is that? The C series can store the LUT and as long as you're using a DeckLink or similar, you're giving it a clean signal. It might be 1 degree off top dead center but unless you're making a lot of money professionally, it makes no sense to spend 10k on a Flanders.

OP: I would recommend going with the smallest screen you can find. I had a 48" C2 and it was way too big. I'd think 42" would be small enough.

I thought the LG C3 was considered unique because its the only affordable screen that is 10bit wherever 10bit is critical.

I just had this thought after looking at the model number of the one I have put an offer in for.
Is it a C3 or is it a C36?
