Smooth cut (speed warp) adds 1 frame of "Media offline"

PostWed Jun 11, 2025 9:15 pm

Got a random problem with Smooth cut. In a video I cut out a couple of seconds and wanted to splice them together with Smooth cut (speed warp version). However, the Smooth cut adds a "Media offline" frame just at the trailing edge of the Smooth cut.

I get the "red frame" for both Speed Warp Better and Faster. Regular Smooth cut and using no transition do not produce the "Media offline" frame.

Another cut works OK with Smooth cut speed warp so this is some type of edge case?

Media is 4k H.264, editing on desktop, system info in signature.

I have a suggestion, but given you said another cut point worked fine with smooth cut then I'm less confident this will work, but it's worth a shot anyway.

Are you sure you have enough space left in the location for your render cache? I worked on a project where I was burning through storage on render cache but Resolve didn't tell me I had run out of space, what it did was delete random pieces of render cache to make space for new stuff. So I'd render something carry on working and come back to the timeline the next day and see that a chunk of it was inexplicably offline. I'd pull my hair out trying to figure out why and then I realised re-rendering it seemed to fix it so I thought the problem was solved until I'd notice that now a totally different chunk of the timeline was suddenly offline. I checked the drive I was rendering to and realised there was no space remaining. It could be that your smooth cut's are needing rendering and this is chewing up that final little bit of remaining space you had left.

Otherwise, given this worked okay on another cut point, I'd wager either that there is either corruption in the media (unlikely given you don't see it until you add the smooth cut), or once again it's render cache but because that particular piece of rendered media has been corrupted (as opposed to running out of space like I suggested earlier), in which case delete the render cache for the selected clip and then try your smooth cut again.

Hi Håkan

Can you give us a link to a minimal example project to take a look at?
Perhaps copy the two clips and the smooth cut, paste it into a new project and link the project archive?

Thank you

Yes, plenty of space on the disk.

Deleting the render cache did not have any effect.

Thank you.

We have a copy of the DRA and the render sample. We will take a look.
