Does davinci use cpu to decode exr but not gpu?

PostFri May 30, 2014 2:52 am

Hi all,

I have some problem when I grading exr sequence.
When I use dpx sequence, cpu loading is about 20% and GPU is 60%.
But when I use exr sequence, cpu loding is about 70% and GPU is only 10%.

This cause I can play dpx file in 24fps but exr only 8~10fps
Is there any suggestion to solve this problem?

Thanks,
Changlin

The EXR format is not as efficient for disk I/O compared to DPX. So its normal to need more CPU to buffer the frames into Resolve. Another thing to consider is EXR is often 16 bit half float data but DPX is often 10 bit. So the extra bits take longer too.

Sounds like you need more CPU power to handle the EXR in real time.
