Resolve 8 on 15" MacBook running 10.8

PostSun Nov 11, 2012 3:06 am

Hi,

Is there a trick to get Resolve 8 running without having part of the display offscreen on OS 10.8 Mountain Lion? I know that in 10.6 you used to be able to open the terminal and type in:

defaults write com.blackmagic-design.davinci.Res AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.87

This would scale it slightly so that it fits on a 15" MacBook, but this doesn't seem to work on OS 10.8.

I know this isn't an issue with Resolve 9 on MacBooks, but trying to find a way to work through this problem with Resolve 8 at the moment.

Any and all help would be great appreciated. Thanks!

This is not a Resolve 8 only issue, it is an issue with Resolve 9 as well.

You MUST have a supported display resolution of 1680x1050 or higher. This means on older 15" MBP's, you need the 1680x1050 HiRes display option, and the standard 15" 1440x900 screen does not work.

There is no way in Lion or Mountain Lion to make Resolve fit on a smaller screen resolution. In Snow Leopard, using the AppleDisplayScaleFactor command, you could fit Resolve onto a 1440x900 resolution 15" display, but as you note, this is no longer possible in Lion and Mountain Lion, and there is no other way we know of to scale Resolve to fit lesser resolution displays.
