I installed resolve 9 lite on my macbook pro (10.7.5) and when i goto my video folders none of the .mov files show up. I can't seem to figure out how to import anything into resolve to grade. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong or how I can fix this. Thanks

Have you went into Resolve Preferences and setup the Scratch Disk path in Media Storage? Did you select the "Show all mounted volumes in the "Library"" checkbox?

Assuming you can see the folder containing your .mov files in the Media page Library area, if you don't see the files, do they have .mov extensions on the file name? They need to have that. If they have .mov extensions, are they files that Resolve supports? Normally, Resolve will not show you files that it cannot support. Supported file types are on the Supported Codecs list, in the Support area for DaVinci Resolve:

I have the scratch disk set correctly and yes the folders all show up so I was thinking its possibly the codec.. They are .mov files directly from the 5dmk3. I believe these are H264 .mov and supported correct? Do these need to be converted? Thanks for the quick reply!

I hade the same problem first few times I opened Resolve. I could not se anything, what so ever in the library. I was mad and could not figure out what was the problem. I checked the manual and it is no info at all in there, what I could fined anyway, about how to set up your library. After a few try a figure it out to set it up in setting, so I could view my media folders, but still no files, not even the one I downloaded from BMD. I turned it of with a few bad words... A day or two later a tested it a last time and then all my media files was there. This is probably no help for you (I was running it on a HP Elitebook 8560) but for me, from one day to another, it fixed it self (probably the reboot).
Anyway... Hope you get it sorted...

I would expect your 5dmk3 h264 files should work with Resolve. Do they open OK in Quicktime Player?
And you are sure they have the .mov extension on the file name?

If you can't get them to work, can you send a small sample file, or a link to a file to
davincihelp (AT) blackmagicdesign (DOT) com?

Happy to take a look at it to see whats going on.

ok ill send you a clip. Do you think if I just re install resolve it might solve the problem? They are normal 5dmk3 files and they show the .mov extension.

It certainly won't hurt to try reinstalling Resolve, though I would be surprised if it fixed an issue like this.

I have not seen any email from you. Could you tell us what email address to look for? It's possible I missed it. And you mentioned you sent a log, but we were looking for a sample clip. Did you send that as well?

I sent a clip and received two different replies and they said it works fine on their systems. One asked for a log so i sent it.

first message:
"Hi,

This file read fine on our system ( Macbook, Resolve 9.0.3).

Louis Wang
davincihelp@blackmagicdesign.com
"

Second :

"Hi James,

This clip is visible in the Library view on my 9.0.3 Resolve Mac setup, and it loads into the Media Pool and works as expected.

It looks like you might have blacked out something in the lower third. Does the clip you sent me behave the same way on your system, i.e., you don’t even see it in the Library view?

If so, I would be totally baffled as to why that was.

If you still can’t see this file in the Library view, please run the CaptureLogs app in the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder. When you double click CaptureLogs in the Finder window, it will place a .tgz log file on your desktop. Send us that file to look at.

Regards,
Dwaine"

Hello Davinci Resolve Team,

I sadly have the exact same problem discussed earlier. I tried to find a solution myself, but unfortunately that wasn't successful.

I used CaptureLogs to output the ResolveDebug file and found the error:

[0x1132cf000] | IO | ERROR | 2013-06-05 20:48:07,757 | Failed to read video track information from file <MVI_9679.MOV> in /Volumes/Edits/2013/TYTC/310513/footage/60d, track 0: codec DUMMY is not supported

That's as far as I could get.

As you can see, it's plain Canon DSLR source material I'm trying to import but without luck. If I open an old project that is already finished the files are shown but blacked out. I cant play/scrub them.

Also, on my journey to finding a solution, I tried a simple reinstall which resulted in my old projects being openable and workable. After closing the project and opening a new one, the old project are not usable anymore. It feels like something is triggering a switch..

Thanks a lot in advance, cheers,

Ben

Hi Ben, just to verify the issue: you don't see the file name listed at all in the Media page Library view?

Are you using 9.1.4? What type of system are you on? System details are always helpful.

Hi Dwaine,

thank you for your reply.

Yes you are correct, I can't see any file names when I go into the right folder. If I right click -> show in Finder, everything is right there where it is supposed to be.

I am on a Hackintosh with OS X 10.8.3
i5 3570K
24GB of Ram
and a NVIDIA GTX 660Ti running as my sole graphics card.

Davinci Resolve is 9.1.4

What baffles me is the fact that I had everything running nice, fluid and steady on the exact same system and from one day to the other it's not working any more.

EDIT: Plus, as I said, after a fresh install I could open my old projects and work with them. A new project killed it again though.

Thank you!

Did this just start after installing 9.1.4, or was this happening with an earlier version? And if so, what version was that?

Could you try reinstalling 9.1.4 again, then immediately go into Resolve preferences, and save the preferences, and restart Resolve and see if that helps?

I was just using 9.1.4 and no earlier Version.

Reinstalling and saving presets didn't help.

Thank you!

So this is a brand new system you just put together in the last week?

Do other mov file types, like any sort of ProRes, work OK?

No, I've been using it almost a year now.

If I think about it now, I was probably running 9.1.3 before and it must have happened there first. Otherwise I would not have updated to 9.1.4, which I unknowingly and apparently did, trying to fix it with a clean fresh install.

A ProRes file isn't read either. Here is it's error log:

[0x11321c000] | IO | ERROR | 2013-06-07 11:04:06,142 | Failed to open video file </Volumes/Edits/2013/TYTC/export/tytc_ProRes.mov> for decoding, error: <Can't open file for reading.>
[0x11321c000] | IO | ERROR | 2013-06-07 11:04:06,142 | Failed to read video track information from file <tytc_ProRes.mov> in /Volumes/Edits/2013/TYTC/export, track 0: codec DUMMY is not supported
[0x11321c000] | IO | ERROR | 2013-06-07 11:04:06,142 | Connection to QTDecoder failed with error 4 (errno: 61, Connection refused)

Thank you!

I'm having a similar issue. With Resolve Lite 9.1.4 I am unable to view any ProRes footage and I get the QTDecoder error. I can view and play other footage just fine.

I've tried re-installing, re-booting, saving preferences, quitting the QTDecoder in the Activity Window and nothing has helped.

Here's my system info:

Mac OS version 10.7.4
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro5,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number of Processors: 2
Total Number of Cores: 12
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per Processor): 12 MB
Memory: 48 GB

Any progress on this? I am having similar issues. For a few days, quicktime files would not show up in the library view. Now they show up but upon import into the media pane, they only show black. The files open fine in Quicktime, contain the .mov extension and actually work properly on my iMac with Resolve (same version). On my MacBookPro Retina they behave as I have described. H264 and ProRes have similar problems while R3D files display fine.

I am having the exact same problem, with some additional issues. Details in my case:

I am running DaVinci Lite version 10 on a Lennovo ultrabook with a core i5 processor and and Intel HD 4000 Graphics card.

When I install DaVinci Lite 10 and create a profile and try to add a directory, first I get two errors. One says it was not able to encode quicktime and the other says something about having to update my GPU or other option, to make a driver update.

Eitherways, once I add a directory and open up a new project, cannot see a single file from that directory loaded (exact problem as the people facing above)

Do you think my computer / graphics card is just not good enough to support DaVinci Lite 10? Also, why cant it open any file. No offense, but I think you guys did a terrible job designing the interface. It would have been easiest if there was something like "File -> open etc." That's how the entire world opens a file in most softwares, rather than having to search the whole page for an icon with the shape of a compact disc.

Sorry for the rant guys, but please...please...help. Despite all the flaws, I think DaVinci is the best color grading tool and I want to have the oppurtunity to use it. Thanks.

Intel HD graphics are not supported by Resolve, so it won't work on that system.

Hello. When I am in Davinci Resolve 17 Free version
I try to relink my DJI MOV footage into the timeline because it is currently offline and "red" on my timeline. It also did this with GXO footage from my go pro, and heic file. My friend didn't have any issues relinking the footage on his PC and I didn't have any issues relinking the footage on my macbook pro but for some reason I can't relink it on my windows 10 PC.

It's probably a codec that is not supported in the free Windows version.
