Playback of quick cuts

PostSun Feb 08, 2015 11:02 am

I have an ongoing problem with DaVinci Resolve's playback of quick cuts. I'm on a maxed out Mac Pros (current model) I can load up grades blurs etc and play back with no trouble but when I hit quick cuts playback gets jerky. I can have quick cuts with no grades or with grades with forced render/cache etc but playback is alway clunky which is frustrating and a little embarrassing when doing a client review. Any ideas how to sort this or will it need addressing in a software update?

Same problem here with a 4GPU Linux machine. It started with resolve 11, no issues with the previous version of software.

The machine is more than capable of do 4K uncompressed DPX in real-time but it jerks with simple 2K files when too many quick cuts are present.

Disable UI update mitigate the issue but does not fix it.

Same here with a 4GPU Linux machine.
You're right, that has to be solved, I'm tired of apologizing when this is happening while the client is in the room...

How many frames long are your clips to introduce this?
Which codecs?

Dpx 10b uncompressed, mitch is sending a separate mail from fotokem with a database. Let's say the cites are less than a second each and there are 10 in a row.

I'm pretty sure is connected to the size of the database.

11.1.3 here, too.
Same issue not only with DPX, but with ProRes, R3D etc, as well...

Mine is most media but using DNx185x most of the time. Anything under 5 frames had a bunch of single or two frame edits on something the other day, they were used as an effect throughout the programme so every time I hit a section it would do that. Same on all our systems so easy to replicate.

We have this problem here as well. The problem is there with all Resolve 11.x.y version up till latest.

Same problem on Linux 4GPU, Mac pro (2012) 12core with 2 Titan blacks and the nMP 12 core with D700s.
Cache can't fix it.
It doesn't matter if the quick cuts are on a single video track either. It always happen.

This is something I've noticed for a long time now (few versions). It doesn't matter what the source media is, if you hit a patch of quick cuts the playback drops. In some cases I've had to resort to rendering patches of quick cut sequences and cutting those renders back into the timeline for client review sessions.

This is super annoying, we have both a mac and a Linux system, either with 4 Titan black (Linux) or two Titan x (Mac), the san can guarantee 4x4k dpx streams and i stubble in 2k every time i hit two cuts in a row thar are too close together.

Either we are donkeys or resolve has some broken screw in it.

Caching does not alleviate the issue either.

I may not have all the detail but I did read previously that this issue was seen on PCIe Gen 2.0 motherboards but not on PCIe Gen 3.0, like the new Supermicro 7048 series.

Anyone had a chance to test this with the 12 beta yet?
