best approach to simulating Rec 709?

PostTue Dec 11, 2012 5:25 am

Hi all,

I'm new to the video field from a photographic background.
I'm looking for the best way to simulate Rec 709 for ACES work.
Hoping to get some of you pro's to look over the info below and let me know if I'm on the right track...

For now, if i have a display that is (regularly) correctly calibrated with it's own custom profile, can i setup Davinci Resolve, to simulate Rec 709 using LUT's, based on the assumption that my display is properly calibrated?

Eventually I'd like to spend a bit of money getting a decent display that is capable of hardware calibration as well as simulating REC709 natively, but for now i am trying to asses the best results achievable from my current display...

Does anyone know of any freely available test videos that i can open inside resolve to display specific colors, and then measure them with my spectrophotometer/colorimeter to ensure that what i am getting is reasonably accurate?

Also does anyone know if i can get a video player application that does a similar real time REC 709 simulation so i can calibrate the directors display for him and set this up to allow him to view the simulated output?

Please let me know if there is any flaws in my thinking on this...

Thanks in advance!
