If you want to render individual clips with output blanking this won't work.
You can use static keyframes to easily animate output blanking. Only requires one keyframe on the start of the clip that needs to change. And adjustments can be made at any point after that keyframe - there is no animation and no change until the timeline hits another static keyframe.
In a very complicated timeline, where you want to be able to use nodes to paste blanking onto particular shot, you could use a window based technique:
In a new node, Adjust a linear power window to be the correct height.
Command click and drag one of the corner points (this functions as a faux "aspect" control and allows you to scale the window horizontally while keeping it square).
Invert the shape
Use grading controls (ie bring down gain) to adjust the blanking to zero.
You now have blanking that can be copied and pasted, and will render as individual clips. The downside is its a bit tough to get precisely pixel accurate, and also the blanking is relative to the shot, rather than to the timeline.
