What computer should i get?

Hey there!

I've been using an old hp i5 laptop and premiere up until now for editing.
Footage is bmpcc raw stuff, nothing hollywood serious.

Anyway, it's time to upgrade and i want to be able to run davinci at least.
I like the idea of an upgradable desktop station but I don't really have space for that, not sure if there are laptops with extra space inside for upgrades but if there is, then i'd prefer that i guess for more future safe.
I got 1500usd to spend at most.
Is this reasonable first of all?
If so, what the absolute best buy? Is there a special brand that makes workstations i should look into?

Thanks in advance :)

I do not build systems but 1500usd seems a bit low...

For a laptop, I think that is not going to be enough money. You will want a good GPU in the laptop, preferably with 8GB of RAM, if possible twin SSDs, and a minimum of 16GB of RAM, but preferably more.

Maybe something like this:

The most important thing is to get a fast GPU with sufficient GPU VRAM. Given you are working with the pocket camera, you are doing to be working with HD footage, so a fast NVIDIA GPU with 4GB of VRAM should be sufficient. Get a minimum of 8GB host memory. Try to get a high-res screen, ideally 1920x1080.

Wow okay.. :/
I saw this morning that a computer shop is opening close to where i live and they'll be having a few deals, one being a laptop for about 700usd.

All the add says is:
Lenovo Y50-70
core i7 quad core
8GB | 1TB SSH
GTX 860M
15,6 Full HD

I thought i could get away cheap by getting that, but i guess now after reading your comments that, thats not going to happen :)

All i see is numbers really, are there any specific model you guys could recommend? How much would i need to add to the budget?

Appreciate all the help!

EDIT:
Saw now that they also have a
ASUS G751JT
Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ
8GB 1600MHz
256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD
GeForce GTX 970M 3GB

about 1440usd
Could that maybe be something??
Im not a hardcore editor or anything. I film my kids a little now and then and make like 5-10 min videos.
I'd like to have the option to make something serious later on though, but just so you get the picture of my needs :)

The Asus config looks pretty decent for HD work.

You can upgrade the memory on that Asus. It has 4 slots and should be able to run 8GB per slot for 32GB total, probably around $250. It's a great upgrade value.

After three hours of standing in line this morning, I now have in front of me the Asus g751!

First thing i did was to install davinci, just to see if it works.
I open it up and this shows up:
Quick Time Decoder initialization failed

Any ideas?
