Need help for Pattern in reel extraction

Hey all - I am not good with syntax to use for pattern in REEL ID extraction. I have a case where the embedded metadata is not what is expected and am looking for the proper pattern to use. the filename is:

B901C002_150515_R6QY.mov

The third party recorder in this case (offboard proxy recorder) embeds the following:

150515

And it really needs to be:

B901R6QY

Any help or guidance appreciated. I've read the manual, tried many times, but my head cannot get around it. Feature request: I want the UI that lets me do a multspan select of a file name and the computer figure out the pattern for me.

Not sure if Resolve pattern matching lets you construct a reel name from two parts of the file name. I think it all needs to be there together somewhere in the path. If your clips are in folders which have the truncated file name as their name (like original ALEXA media does) you can easily extract the parent folder name as the reel name using */%R/%D

Or use search and replace in a text editor to remove R6QY (which should be the same for every clip from that same camera) from the reel names in your EDL, leaving only B901 or whatever. Then */%RC*_*_* will match that.

Most likely the first 9 char are always the same length, you can use ????????? For that.

First you need to go to the first dot, then the first _, then get the name and take the first 9 char out of it And the rest of the path is crap.

Walter, your patterns all produce 150515, which is what he is already getting from the embedded reel name.

Unless I misunderstand, he wants to extract the proper ARRI truncated reel name, which is made up of the first four characters of the file name, followed by the last four (before the extension). I believe Resolve's pattern matching can only create a reel name from a single sequence of characters in the path name. He needs to concatenate two sequences.

Well i think i will do one of three things:

Re do the database in the editor
manually select the clip and force the tape id
manually cut them in

It also depend how many you have to cut in, 100 can be fine in one hour, all of them, i will go back to the nle

But I didn't manage to achieve this exact operation. For example, I managed to delete X characters from the beginning or the end of the filename using "?". But I couldn't figure out a way to keep X characters.

I have files with and without a prefix:
For example

A1-0511_000413_0206S3.MP4

and

000413_0206S3.MP4

The part I want to keep in both cases is:

000413_0206S3

As prefixes may or may not exist, I cannot just delete the first 8 characters (the A1-0511_ part). I have to keep the last ones.

BTW I found a workaround to the actual challenge I was facing, but if you know the answer I think it would still be interesting to the forum.

you cannot do it with only one string I think.

1) select all the clips that have the full name: A1-0511_000413_0206S3.MP4 clip attribute and in the reel use */????????%R.* --> this will extract 000413_0206S3

2) select all the clips that have only 000413_0206S3.MP4, clip attribute reel and use */%R.*

that should work.
