Hi,

Is there a way do better organizer LUTs lists in Resolve? With huge packages like ImpulZ installed LUTs lists get pretty messed up.

Hope Resolve 12 find a new way do deal with that.

My second pet peeve to this is how you have to mouse left or right to select these and if you stray outside the lines you lose the list. Maybe put in a blank header so it's not so easy to stray off the mark. Also an easy way of scrolling through the luts so you can see them rapidly without having to go in and reselect each one. Like using arrows for instance.

You could avoid the problem by avoiding using LUTs.

I have to say that it's super annoying that it's not handled the same way throughout the app. It's folder based when when right clicking a node, this is good, but it's just one long list when applying a LUT to an output in you project prefs.

True, but I suspect you won't be changing LUTs every five minutes with a custom LUT.

I could also avoid it by using another software, but this is not the point.
We just need a little better implementation of LUT's folder listing in Resolve.

lol, of course Marc!

I can confirm this issue as well, at least on mac 10.10.4 . Submit a bug report please if it is an issue and they'll nab it. Purpose of the public beta :)

Highly unlikely to see new features in a beta, they entered feature freeze a while ago

I've heard of projects like that before. Very silly, particularly if they're setting these looks on questionable monitors under bad circumstances on film sets with stray lighting and all kinds of pressure.

I worked on a project a few years ago where somebody had come up with customized LUTs that they insisted we use, and the DP came in and in less than hour, we threw all of them out and started over. We always, always used their original version as a reference and it was easy to go back and forth and compare to reassure them we weren't going very far from their preset look.

My take is that religiously sticking with LUTs done over a period of several months is silly, and it's an example of people buying into the hype of what LUTs can and can't be used for. I think Roger Deakins has the right idea: create one simple LUT, use that as an overall guideline, and use experience and good judgement to tweak the shot when necessary.

On the other hand... the client is always right. :|

See, you have enough year behind you that you know that sometimes is not what make sense but what the client want. ...

They should put the LUT selection at the top right where OpenFX window is.. much more manageable that way..

Well if you're talking about the kind of input LUTS you might use to convert slog3 to rec.709, then why not experiment with the new YRGB Colour Managed mode in version 12 instead? You set your project input and timeline colour space before you grade. Better quality than input LUTS and works across your whole timeline, it's awesome stuff!

For stylistic/look LUTS, I understand your frustration with the menu. I also suggest moving on from using these kind of LUTS anyway, I have and it's empowering :)

Well, Resolve 12 is doing it the same way as previously.

Perhaps a way to 'checkbox' the LUTs you want active and shows up in those right-click lists?

I second this request.

Because when there is 100 LUTs in the list, even scrolling/finding the one you're after is frustrating as hell!

Since they are all strutted in folders in the main LUT folder, I don't understand why some of them get organized into separate flyouts, and others do not.
