Davinci Resolve YouTube Export Settings

I'm a Premiere Elements user, and I'm excited about the possibility of moving to Resolve.

I've been experimenting with footage, and my problem is with the Delivery settings.

RESOLVE - When I export a 43 second clip with Quicktime H264 settings (.mov format), the file size is 1.7GB

PREMIERE ELEMENTS - When I export a 38 second clip with the same settings (.mp4 format), the file size is 60MB.

My videos will mostly be uploaded to YouTube/Vimeo.
Given the size of the RESOLVE files, uploading to YT/V is not an option due to the time constraints.
What can I do to minimize the size of the files and still retain the quality of the exported Videos?

I'm comfortable in Premiere Elements and the quality is good, but the color grading features of Resolve are superior, and I was thinking about making it my NLE of choice.

In Render Settings, right at the top you can change Presets / Easy setup to "Video Sharing Export". If you look in the Intermediate tab, you'll see that it has restricted the output bit rate to 10,000 Kb/s. I just tried a 40-second 1080p job with that preset, and the resulting file was just under 60MB.

If you don't like the preset, you can set it to "none" and mess with the settings in Intermediate or Advanced. The size of your output file is almost entirely dependent on the Video / Data Rate setting.

Scott,

Yes, it appears that the bit-rate was much too high.
When I reduced it, my clip was comparable to that produced in Premiere Elements.

Learning about bit-rates, encoding, transcoding, etc. is a process.

Thanks for chiming in.

When uploading to youtube it's best to use their recommended export-settings so your Video won't get compressed again after uploading more than necessary.

The best settings can be found here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

Although I believe, they changed the page not long ago, because I remember different bitrates (around 15Mbit/s for 1080p) for higher quality video.

Hi,
Trying to figure out why YT is giving me:
Video / Audio quality:
We did not recognize the format of this file, but we will try to process it anyway. See this article on recommended formats for more information.

...when I upload a video. I chose the specs listed on the YT page: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171

My vid timeline was done in 1920x1080 24fps(monitored at 720 to reduce cpu load while editing). and I used the "video share" preset. Set to "restrict to 10000kbps.
Here's the settings: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ztu5ntita8va7 ... 1.png?dl=0

I read the other posts here about setting up the render. I've tried a few different settings (lower restrict on kbps/ 1080, 720), but YT gives me the error mess on all tries so far. The video does appear on YT however.

Im new at this. Apologies if I left out any info. Thanks for any suggestions!
