Using Keyframed Tilt Causes Letterboxing To Move

Hi!

I'm trying to troubleshoot moving letterbox bars after rendering footage out of resolve.

I'm using tilt to reframe some shots and using output blanking to achieve the desired letterbox.

The letterbox remains fixed in any preview window within resolve. But as soon as I render the footage, any clip that has keyframed tilt applied to it causes the letterboxing to move up/down in the render.

I've tried searching the forums as well as google searches and I haven't been able to turn up any solutions.

Am I just making a newbie mistake somewhere here?

Are you blanking the shot, the timeline or cropping the input?

I'm setting output blanking in the color tab and then using tilt to help keep some shots with slow panning centered.

Output Blanking should never move with PTZR.

Ok, that's what I thought too.

Thanks guys, I rendered a few clips so you can see what I'm trying to describe.

In clips that just have a static tilt offset, the letterbox will move between clips. The ones with automation, the letterbox will move with the automation.

I'm still learning so I wasn't sure if I was just making a mistake. Perhaps I ran into a bug here. At least I don't remember seeing this happen in Resolve 10 Lite.

I tried everything I could to replicate your issue, but I can't make Resolve do what you are describing. Resolve 11.3.1 Mac OSX. I would thoroughly check all your settings to see if there is anything odd going on.

Ok thank you. :)

I'm on PC (if that matters).

I did notice earlier that the timeline is still set to 1920x1080 while the source clips are 2704x1440 (Cineform HD). Thought I had told the project to change it's settings to match the clips on import, but I guess not? Still rendering final output to 1080P though.

My workflow was:

GoPro RAW 2704x1440 ---> Converted to Cineform via GoPro App --> Premiere Editing ---> Rendered out as Cineform HD @ 2704x1440 ---> Resolve

Yes but you cannot set an arbitrary number like 2.75 ultrapanavision, you have to make a lot of math. ..

Very late reply... I have no idea what changed. But my last export didn't have the bug with moving letterboxing. Didn't change any settings. Odd... Wish I had a solid repro to report to BM.

That's the trick with bugs: you have to make them reproducible so they can duplicate the problem and then track down why it happens. Nothing more frustrating than inconsistent, unpredictable bugs -- and we've all encountered them on occasion.

haha, don't I know it! They're the worst bugs to get. ;)
