1080 DVCPro HD pixel aspect ratio

PostMon Jul 13, 2015 5:06 pm

Have a workflow question on proper sizing configuration for DVCProHD 1080p 23.98 clips.

I realize DVCProHD is not a popular format these days but there are still some documentaries that are finishing now after years of shooting.

In my example I have a FCP 7 sequence that is using the 1280x1080 DVCProHD Pixel Aspect. A Quicktime generated from this sequence retains this non-square pixel.

I can't get Resolve to display it correctly unless I do a manual resize of the width in a Timeline. Resolve does have a Clip Attribute setting for DVCProHD pixel but I don't think it's right for 1280x1080, which is the NTSC based size. I think this setting is designed for 1440x1080, which is a PAL based size for this camera format.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Am I supposed to just set everything to square and just resize on the timeline?

Hello, Chris,
DVCPRO HD is a codec that will carry different pixel aspect ratios depending on the format and resolution:

i60 and p23.976 will be 1280x1080 with the PAR of 1.5

i50 will be 1440x1080 as well as all three of the 720p will be with the PAR of 1.33
