Exclude from Timeline grade? Or... better way?

Hi everyone,

I love having a 'look' applied to the entire timeline. However, if that 'look' affects black levels etc etc, it means dips to black etc etc all look strange - and so do any imported effect shots etc etc.

So what is the best way to avoid this?

Do I need to add the grade manually to each clip (or group) as a post-clip grade? (Yawn!)

Thanks for any help you can spare!

Toby

Post Group Grade is your best bet. You can add multiple clips to a group at one time, so not as tedious as you're fearing.

I assume you mean a lut or power grade

Do not use a lut/look (i know not the anwer you are looking for)
When you want to compensate for a lut, put a node before the look/lut-node.
Eg. lift the blacks in a node before the lut, to compensate the clipped shadows.
Tinkering with the gain(streght) of a grade might help a bit to
When grade a timeline as a whole then there is no way areound that some ckips need to be finetuned

If you have one minute to spare you can open up the Resolve manual and see how to use groups to apply the 'look' once to everything, except the stuff you need to omit.

Thanks Remco, good advice.

And yes, Peter - I have read the manual (its so good!) and yes, as I said, I use groups already. But that involves going into every group and adding the look, which then can't be changed all at once.
