Hi

2nd time i try to post these question!! After waiting 1 Day! the post still wasn't "online".
Hopefully this time my post will be visible for alle forum Users.

Is there an option to reduce multiple tracks in one timeline to only one track? Yes, i know that i can move every little part in every track i use. Yes, i know that i can this propably in an other program. Yes, i know that i can stack timeline in timeline in Resolve 12.
But i have to do this in version 11. So, is there a way to simply reduce, like f.e. in photoshop where you can click on a layer and choose sth linke "reduce to one layer"?

It's a cool feature request... But no. There is no such 'flatten' command.

Oh, come on, this is the only opportunity I get to play a video game vaguely similar to "Tetris."

Its a dangerous game, though. Often if I'm conforming an alien timeline, its hard to sort out what you need and what you don't need as it is sometimes not totally obvious whethere there are multiple clips contributing to a composite image -- whether by transparency, opacity, or matte...

Don't worry iI know that they aren't the same category software, but i though it mostly anyone would know.

A couple of hours ago i heard that After Effects has the feature too, so i hoped Resolve have it to. The other option is Resolve 12, but on my system Beta1 will not open any Resolve 11 Projects

if understand you cerrectly, a compoud track maybe suit your needs.
compoud track is Akin to a precomp in AE

Select the clips you want to precomp
Rightmouseclick -> choose "create new compund clip"
A new Track is created in the timeling
The cool thing is you can "de-compose in place" the files back in the timeline for additions and/or changes.
You can decompose it in its own (temp)timeline aswel!!!
make de changes, close the (temp)timeline and and it is a compound track again.

I always demand (excuse me, "suggest") to editors that they give me a final conform XML with no more than 2 video tracks and no more than 2 audio tracks. It doesn't always happen. One recent project had 9 video tracks, and my head exploded. I was able to manually flatten it to 2 and it worked fine, but it was an annoyance.

Joe's comparison to Tetris is very apt. The only time I can buy multiple tracks is if there's three or four simultaneous dissolves, composites, or split-screens or something. And even then, I think I'd rather have a flattened file unless it's something I need to color-correct prior to the VFX.

For regular A/B dissolves, I'm totally cool with 2 tracks. 9+ tracks for color?... I can't go for that, noooo.... no can do.
