Just wanted to point ou that, when using the Tangent Element in Resolve 12 beta, the Color boost knob will change the Input Sizing Width and the Mid Detail will change the Input Sizing Height.

You might want to check this out.

it did that in v11 too... if you had that screen open, it also will adjust sat-vs-luma if that window is open when you touch the knob... not sure if it's a feature or a bug tho, once you know it's there it can come in handy

I'm amazed that with all this forward progress, BMD still hasn't made an API for control surfaces to make them user-programmable. Is the Element programming improved in any way in v12?

Mostly unchanged. I think they updated the panel to properly map the new Matte Finesse controls but that's about all.

I gotta tell you, my favorite new hardware add-on is a $129 XKey 24-button mappable device. With the additional mappable controls in R12, my productivity with the Element is about 40% faster (since I've mapped almost everything (and more) from the A-side of the MF panel) and I find myself way less concerned about button mapping by Blackmagic. No matter how finely tuned they make it, this XKey thing I now consider to be a must-have add-on if you want to minimize mouse and keyboard actions.

I love x-keys (I use it alongside my Elements panel, too) and widely used by many colorist who hangout over on the LGG forum. Josh did a great tutorial on MixingLight! People should check it out, as well all the other fine tutorials and info on the MixingLight site Looking forward to a comprehensive Resolve 12 tutorial!

x-keys, as good as they are will not help with mapping exposure / contrast / pivot to the wheels, with matching hue offsets; exposure hue offset / contrast hue offset / pivot hue offset mapped to the balls...

partialy due to some/most of the tools just plain not existing in Resolve in the first place! and the one's that do exist in Resolve v12 react in a non-linear manner, ie; with contrast a small amount of movement = small changes on screen, a bit more = alot more change, and a bit more yet = gone to the moon

sit infront of Baselight with the artist color, or Nucoda with Elements for a day or two and you'll weap when you go back to Resolve...

and not tears of joy either....

Or be amazed at what I CAN do with the tools I have at hand... is how I prefer to work.

Non-linear rotary feedback is a great feature request, though. They're actually trying to do that in Resolve while scrubbing with the mouse... with limited success in my opinion.

i also do pretty good work in Resolve, a pile of MoW's and features attest to that... and i do advocate for using the tools to their advantage, and useing the best tool for a job, and many times that's been Resolve

Still the weaklinks are real and because one can work around them, does not mean they do not exist, and does not mean there is at times better tools on offer elsewhere, and you will never know what was left on the table...

There are many good things in v12, surface mapping and log gradeing is not among them tho....
