Resolve 12 -- inconsistent timeline function performance

PostWed Jul 29, 2015 7:16 pm

Whether dragged transitions, the double-clicked transition menu, slipping, extending the length of a clip or title, etc. work properly seems to depend on the sizing of the timeline, as well as unknown factors -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, requiring multiple tries.

In the case of time-lines of reduced clip size, these kinds of functions rarely do work -- nothing happens. It's usually necessary to significantly expand the size of the clips in both directions (track height and relative size). Even then, performance is inconsistent.

While unrelated, I'll also second the frustration expressed with failure to fully support .mts clips. It's impossible to adopt Resolve as a primary NLE if it can't support common formats.

AVCHD MTS files are no fun. I would much rather convert them to ProRes or DNxHD prior to working with them in post. All these H.264 variants are troublesome (IMHO), and have too much compression and require too much overhead to process in real time.

Ain't that the truth. It's just that there's often no choice in the matter, and conversion isn't always possible or desirable. BMD, throw us this bone! Substandard performance would be better than none at all.

Yeah, we receive files from some scans in uncompressed .avi format, and it is a pain that literally every package except resolve will load them. Having to convert 6-12TB of files for one package is tedious.
