Multicam not fully functional

PostSat Aug 01, 2015 6:40 pm

I'm working on a corporate video, and since I have a little time, I thought I'd try the new editing features in DR12.

So I've got a bunch of 30-minute interviews, each with two camera angles. I made multicam clips of each interview using timecode. Easy and quick.

But then I found out - you can't assign metadata to multicam clips! Nor can you create subclips from multicam clips! This is terrible!

So if each interview has only a few minutes of good footage, how do I tag/keyword it?

It seems the process would be:

1) Create subclips from each camera angle, which would have to perfectly match.
2) Separately assign metadata and keywords to each subclip and each angle.
3) Create a multicam clip from every single pair of keyworded subclips.

This might make sense in a narrative project, but what about interview/corporate/documentary, when you might have a ton of footage that doesn't make it into the cut? Shouldn't we be able to create subclips AFTER we make multicam clips from the source footage? And shouldn't we be able to assign different keywords to those subclips?

If anyone can offer a different/better workflow, please do!
