I've discussed this with Blackmagic at length and in their view it is a feature. Personally I think it does more harm than good and there should at least be an option to turn it off.
The first and last frames of a clip are rarely the optimal points to start a track, I normally track forward and back from the middle of a clip, which means 3-4 auto keyframes on almost every tracked shot. If animating a track you are almost always going to need to delete the start and end auto keyframes. Often the middle ones need deleting as well.
Any advantages of these auto keyframes is outweighed by the work generated through having to assess and delete them most of the time. It spoils the elegance and usability of the new animation tools for tracked shapes, which for me was one of the highlight features of earlier versions of Resolve 12.
