(Resolve 12) auto adding of frame tracking keyframes

PostMon Jan 18, 2016 7:49 pm

I've noticed in resolve 12, at every point you track a window forward or back a frame keyframe is added.

This has been more of an annoyance than a help since the points where you start tracks are not necessarily good keyframes for the shape - I think it worked way better in 11 when it didnt do this and you had manual control over there you put frame mode keyframes.

I do like the new frame keyframes being above and separate from the tracking data, but I just don't like how keyframes are added wherever you start a track.

Maybe I am missing something - but is this a feature? Or is it a bug?

I've discussed this with Blackmagic at length and in their view it is a feature. Personally I think it does more harm than good and there should at least be an option to turn it off.

The first and last frames of a clip are rarely the optimal points to start a track, I normally track forward and back from the middle of a clip, which means 3-4 auto keyframes on almost every tracked shot. If animating a track you are almost always going to need to delete the start and end auto keyframes. Often the middle ones need deleting as well.

Any advantages of these auto keyframes is outweighed by the work generated through having to assess and delete them most of the time. It spoils the elegance and usability of the new animation tools for tracked shapes, which for me was one of the highlight features of earlier versions of Resolve 12.

If somebody understand why these auto-keyframes exist, I'd love to know.
I often need to delete them because they mess with the keyframes I add to move/transform my shape (in the real "keyframing" window).

I don't understand how this can be considered a "feature", it creates extra work, especially when animating a window. And I also love the new animation tool, so it is bewildering to me why it was compromised this way.

Being able to turn off the auto-added keyframing would be welcome.

This was discussed within weeks of v12 coming out and I agree 100%. The additional keyframes often get in my way and wind up tripping me up later on. This is a feature I would turn off most of the time.

5 years later we're all still living with this cumbersome "feature"?
