Old Film Looks Plugins

PostTue Feb 02, 2016 3:47 am

Can anyone please refer me to any plugins for Resolve that simulate the looks of old, grainy, dirty 16mm & 8mm? I've seen Red Giant's RetroGrade which looks perfect, but they want a monthly membership. I was hoping to find a plug with a one-time purchase.

Thanks in advance!

Filmconvert is a pretty interesting package. Works really nicely for grain and looks.

You can also create this look without a plug-in entirely and just key in grain, either as a matte or as a composited layer. The advantage of doing that is that you have infinite control on it and you don't have to deal with the resources used by OFX plug-ins. I'm a big fan of Cinegrain, but there are a dozen different sources for film grain out there, ranging anywhere from subtle to very damaged film:

http://cinegrain.com/
http://gorillagrain.com/
http://www.rgrain.com/
http://www.crumplepop.com/
http://indieessentials.com
http://www.filmwash.com/shop/
http://vegasaur.com/film-grain
http://filmlooks.com/
https://www.fxphd.com/store/stock/scrat ... ge-bundle/

Each of them has pros and cons, but I generally find I return to Cinegrain most of the time because it's organic and has a lot of different looks available, from 35mm to 8mm. Crumblepop, FilmLooks, and Indie Essentials have some good damaged film bits, as does Warren Eagles with his ScratchFX bundle on FXPHD.
