Audio File Name needs its own Metadata Column

PostSat May 14, 2016 12:11 pm

Hi All,

One of the main things that keeps me using from using Resolve on my DIT jobs is that when you sync sound from an external recorder, the name of the Audio File (.wav), is stuck in Resolve and there's no way to get it out.

So for example, if I sync sound in Resolve, export my MXF files, and bring the ALE into Avid. There's no way for Avid to know which external audio file now goes with that video, and so he can't pass that info on to the audio engineers. You end up having to re-sync everything again in Avid, which is a waste of time.

Resolve has this information, if you open up the audio sync frame in the media pool, it will tell you what audio file is attached to the video, but that's the only place you can see it.

It would be utterly and completely amazing and worthwhile if that audio file name could automatically be included in a metadata column attached to the video file it's sync'd with.

Below is an image to show what I mean:

I agree with you!
I synced the video with the audio coming from an external recorder, I edited the clips and now I have to export the timeline as a AAF for the audio engineer and...I'm stuck!
The name of the audio files in the timeline is the same of the video files, even though the audio is coming from an external recorder and the source file has got a completely different name!
What shall I do?
How can I get the audio source file name in the timeline?
Thank you!

Same problem here. Dual system audio metadata is lost when synched... AAF and XML audio track export need to be fixed.

I ran a little test with an xml export and Resolve itself couldn't relink the .wav files in any way:

When you're creating Dailies just add the filename to an empty Metadata window, such as Description (if you're not using it). That will come across with the ALE. Then in AVID use Command+D on the Description column and copy it to your Audiofilename column. It's not ideal but it works.

But I agree, this is a SIMPLE fix.

+10 This makes Resolve completely unusable for syncing on high-end workflows. Sound editors will have a fit.

+100.

But we also need to be able to have both stereo and mono tracks in the same clip. This is because camera audio is almost always stereo and location sound is usually mono.

So when syncing sound, the embedded audio track for the camera should stay stereo. But the linked audio tracks from the field recorder should stay mono.

Spoken like an Avid user. Yes please!! And use the arrow keys to navigate the bin columns and rows like you would on a spreadsheet.

Has there been any update or fix to this issue? I'm asking because I'm in a similar situation now.

Thank you in advance.
