How to mark clips in bins that have been used in timeline?

Hi there,

I have just switched to Resolve after having used Premiere for the longest time and I'm thrilled with how smooth the transition has been thus far.

However, there are a few things I wished Resolve did more intuitively. One of them is that I can't find how to get Resolve to mark clips in bins that are used in the timeline. In Premiere, once you drag a clip from the bin into the timeline, it immediately and automagically gets a little blue icon, letting you see at a glance what clips you have used.

I would be very suprised if Resolve didn't offer a way to do this, but for the life of me I have not been able to find a way to do that.

This is where you come in. So... HALP?

A couple of steps in the media pool.

Right click on the column heading and enable the Usage column.
Then right click in the media pool and select update usage.
Sort the media pool via usage column to show which are used and how many times.

Many, many thanks.

I'm one (big) step closer to ditching Premiere altogether. Resolve is a beautiful piece of software.

Uhm... Does this only apply to the list view?

Anyway to display usage data while in thumbnail view?

I love the way its work in Premiere. It's simple and intuitive. This should be better in Resolve.

Any update on this? Any indicators in thumbnail view of which media has been used?

Hi,

Media tab : Add 'Usage' column to Master Bin + Update Usage (3 small dots)
Next create a smart bin with 'usage' is > 0
Automatically the smart Bin will be updated and you will have the opportunity to have thumbnail

Hello,

I'm totally new to DaVinci Resolve. Just started working with it and I had the same question.
I found a workaround.
If you are in Edit-Mode, you can set a Flag on the used clip. (I use a red flag).
This flag is also shown in the media bin in the clips, but only in the bin you took the clip from.

Best regards

Rupert

I have DaVince Resolve version 18.1 and read the manual. On page 757 it says:
"A Usage column can be optionally shown in the Media Pool while in List view. By default, this column is empty, but if you right-click in the Media Pool and choose the Update Usage command, the project is analyzed, and every use of that clip in every timeline of the entire project is logged in this column."

In any view (even list view) I cannot find "Update Usage". The smartbin method is also doing nothing. Please help. I'd like to autosort my used and unused media!

Thanks for the Smart Bin idea.

I am running 18.1.3 and there is no option, when right-clicking, in the Media Pool to Update Usage. However, mine has been populated.

Is there a way to show usage for just a SINGLE timeline using Smart bins?

I don't think so, not directly, but if you don't mind jumping through a few hoops to get there ... last time I checked, usage only counts 'loaded' timelines, so if you disable 'Load all timelines when opening project' (if enabled), then close all timelines, then close the project, then reopen the project, then open just that single wanted timeline... your usage smart bin should be showing only clips used in that single open timeline. Note: The minute you open another timeline your usage bin will include those clips too (unless the entire process is repeated).
