Super Slow Performance

PostWed Feb 15, 2017 4:55 pm

Hello,

I'm experiencing incredibly bad performance with the resolve software. It's a brand new computer built specially for running resolve. We followed your recommended system configuration and got clearance from Pre-Sales Tech Support for using the AMD WX7100 video cards.

We are using the free version of the software to evaluate if we can switch from the Adobe CC flow to a resolve flow. All other applications on this machine don't have any problems playing video. We can't get more than about 2FPS out of SD 60 FPS video (with no effects or anything turned out).

I've attached the output of DXDIAG, the log gathering bat file and gpu-z for your viewing pleasure.

I haven't look at your logs, and wouldn't have the expertise to assess them anyway, but what stands out in your post is SD, which Resolve doesn't handle all that well.

Before drawing any conclusions about your system -- it doesn't help that you haven't provided system specs -- you might want to try playback of HD Prores or DNxHD material.

Someone called from Blackmagic and we made a lot of progress.

Looks like the environment variable: GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR has to be set to 1 for GPU based processing to work.

Pre-Allocated system memory should be set to the size of the video card - the program will select the wrong value by default.

The H.264 decoder is very slow. You have to right click on the clip and select "Generate optimized media."

The playback engine for the media browser is very slow. It's best to view clips in edit or color mode.

After making those changes stuff started working ok. I'd classify the software as usable at this point.

Do you have dual WX7100 cards? If yes, could you lose one of them and see if it helps.

Is your timeline resolution set to SD or HD? Is your Decklink set to SD or HD?

Hello Gabriel Felix,

Can you please elaborate in details how to perform the steps you mentioned? Only the first is really clear how to replicate, the rest is not. Thx!
