Timeline Filmstrip is wrong

PostSat Feb 25, 2017 2:10 am

This is sort of dumb but it's really bothering me. After notching my sequence with the edl the filmstrip is off for all the shots on the timeline. The shots are in the right place, the edl worked fine, it's just the filmstrip view is off so that it is showing the wrong image until about halfway through the shot on the timeline.

Is there someway to make Resolve regenerate that or do I have to be mildly annoyed at it for the whole time?

Giving this a little bump since after the wait for review it started off already on the second page.

From memory:
- right-click on the timeline clip thumbnails and choose "Refresh thumbnails"?

I think he's talking about the edit page. I get this sometimes too, hopefully it will be addressed. Wonder if it's to do with particular frame rates?

Yeah, I'm talking about the timeline on the Edit page.

Not a disaster but makes finding shots visually a bit hit and miss.

This is still an issue in Resolve 16.2.7. I'm not able to test it in 17 yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still there.

As you can see in this screenshot, the thumbnail for the previous shot incorrectly appears at the head of the thumbnail filmstrip for the current shot.

I've always found the Filmstrip view more visually confusing even when it's correct.

Thumbnail view, offering only head and tail thumbs, is the superior visual indicator for shot changes.

(This is one of the major failings of the Cut page, in my view. No way to get Thumbnail view on the bottom timeline.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I usually agree with this. However, filmstrip view is particularly useful when quickly validating the accuracy of EDL Preconform notching, which I do quite often.
