Render slower so it use less resources option?

PostFri Mar 17, 2017 5:39 pm

I have a macbook pro retina 16 gb ram 2.7gHz i7. I recently burned it out while rendering. Turns out Apple fixed it for free since there was a recall on that specific part (logic board). But the fact remains rendering burns really really hot.

I'm happy to wait 10 mins to render rather than 5, but I don't see an option to have it render at a slower rate. Does this option exist or is there any way to get the same final result, just rendering it slower?

I'm a very casual user of the free version but am enjoying everything DaVinci Resolve has to offer. I'm thinking of getting a separate computer just so I don't burn out my good computer again.

If the answer is no, will add this to the big feature request list.

In the render settings area , click file and scroll down to reveal how many frames per second you want to render at.

Hi Stephen,
you can go under delivery, to bottow part of file tab, and you fine "render speed" setup to maximum, you can reduce it to speed down your render.

keep in mind that if the gpu saturated even go down to 1fps will not solve. there is no "cpu only" option.

Hey Carlo,

The Render Speed option under File was exactly what I need. I get the same result, just shorter. Just did a test at 50% and the fan was on but not nearly as bad as before. Will probably run it at 25% just to be safe.

I feel dumb for not finding that option, I guess I gave up too early. Every time I googled for render led to discussions on speeding up render speed.

You saved my computer!!
