How many audio channels can hardware support

PostTue Apr 25, 2017 5:49 am

Hi all,

The information on the new release indicates on a normal computer, about 60 channels of audio can be mixed, but with the hardware accelerator about 1000. First, does the 60 channels include the 6 VST plugins per channel.. if not, what sort of limit of VST plugins are we looking at?

More importantly, what is defined as a normal computer?

I will be building an AMD Ryzen 16core system with 128GB RAM and Optane technology by end of year. That should be at least 2x if not 3x faster than my core i7 6700K system, if not more, especially for multi threaded capable applications like Resolve 14. Given such hardware, and that I seldom would work with more than a dozen or so audio channels for small projects, I would like to know how I can measure/guage how much my end of year system can handle, and for that matter, my beefy (top of the line today) laptop can handle now.

I also cant seem to find a link for the actual audio accelerator hardware. Anyone got some links?
