How to move around zoom in screen

PostWed Apr 26, 2017 12:13 pm

Hi All,
Resolve 14 is a nightmare so far, finally figured out how to chroma key, yay, now how do I move around a zoomed in screen, in FCPX, it is easy there is a tiny box you use to move around the screen when it is beyond 100% zoom, yet in R14 there is nothing of the sort.

To move a box around the screen, have to use the controls in the inspector...that is super annoying...

Is this supposed to be better??? It is super useless right now...

I can using command and shift, but that is just dense, that is just not a good idea, it should be so easy to hold the left mouse button and the screen adjusts, to use the command and or shift keys, in R14, terrible idea!

If you mean to move around a screen to examine it, you can use your center mouse button. Press, hold and move.

Why I can't I figure this out? I am using a magic mouse on an MBP. Shift Cmd didn't work, I have no middle button, and the menu-view-zoon only gives me fit to screen, zoom in, and zoom out. So frustrated!

For a Mac with a magic mouse, just hold "control" + run your finger across the top of your mouse. That will pan your footage in the viewer window. ;)

Is there a workaround to do this with a Wacom?

If not, how are people moving around a zoomed in image window when using a pen?

I just figured this out myself for the Wacom. I've set my main button on the pen to "Pan/Scroll" in the Wacom preferences, then in Resolve if you hold down Shift + Pan/Scroll clicker while moving up/down left/right across the image it'll move it. The Pan/Scroll without shift zooms in and out of the viewer.

For WACOM tablet users I think its better to set one of your Express Keys on the Tablet to "Middle Click" then just scrub the pen across the window to move the zoomed image within the viewer

For me using a Windows Dell XPS 15. If I press “CTRL” and scroll using the scrolling wheel in the middle of the mouse it will move up and down the current frame. If I do “CTRL” + “ALT” and scroll it will move the frame left and right!
Hope This Helps

Is there a Mac keyboard shortcut to recenter the image after moving it?
Thanks.

Anyone?
Would love to know how to re-center the image after moving it with the third wheel on the mouse.
Thanks so much.

Spent tons of time figuring it out. Nowadays on macOS Control+mouse zooms the application window.

So, today to scroll the viewer on a mac, you need to do:

Command + mouse swipe up and down to scroll up and down
Command + Shift + mouse swipe up and down (!) to scroll left and right

Thanks a lot! I thought I did something wrong when I tried to zoom left and right with Option and it didn't worked.

Thanks a lot! :)

It's far less frustrating if you get yourself a decent PC mouse for your Mac.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Can anyone advise how to move around a zoomed in image with only a laptop trackpad- no mouse?
(I have a mouse but often want to do this when I don't have the mouse to hand!) Surely there is a way?

On the Mac it's a two finger touch, very easy. Check your config under system prefs.

Or a trackpad, like the Magic Trackpad 2.

I never even realised how difficult it was to do stuff with the mouse until I saw people complaining. With my trackpad I just use two fingers to pan the viewer around, and Option + two fingers left/right to zoom in and out. Same on the Timeline (with 2D Timeline Scroll enabled), except there it's Option + two fingers up/down to zoom in and out, rather than left/right.

There's no middle mouse button, but using third party software I can bind that to a trackpad corner click, or even a keyboard shortcut. I don't need that for panning/zooming though, only for a couple of things like copying a Fusion comp between clips using the Fusion Clips pane.

At times my mac trackpad's gestures works fine to move the preview window around.

Other times, I am stuck with only being able to zoom in and out, and to move the preview I have to click the annoying CMD + SHIFT combination.

It looks like there is something that toggles the gestures on and off (maybe a bug), and it is frustrating because I have no idea of how to activate them at will.

To watch the gestures working fine with DaVinci Resolve, check this video. No third app installed.

I've just spent a frustrating hour trying - unsuccessfully - to find out how to do this with my set up. Windows with a trackball so no middle mouse. In the COLOR tab how on earth do I zoom to a specific area?

Any suggestions appreciated!

This still doesn’t work consistently for me.
Sometimes I’m able to pan with the trackpad using two fingers. Then it will change its mind and get stuck allowing nothing but zoom regardless of which direction I pan. I’ve tried all manner of modifiers but to no avail.

This is a very annoying bug and it’s in the heart of the UI. Commenting to try and bring it back to BMD’s attention.

I've seen the same, Joe, on my MacBook Pro. I use a center mouse button add on for my Mac since I often don't have a mouse connected (I prefer the trackpad when editing on the couch). The faked center mouse button allows me to pan around the zoomed-in image and of course to do other things that a center-mouse-button allows. I can't understand why a two-finger motion on the trackpad works for panning sometimes and other times it gets stuck or zooms. Frustrating.
