DNxHD / HR still broken in Davinci 14 Beta 2

PostSun May 14, 2017 2:16 am

I'm finding that DNxHD & DNxHR files created with Davinci 14 Beta 2 seem to be somewhat broken.
Is anyone having this issue? (Windows10 on a MacbookPro late 2013, Avid codecs V2.7.3)

The files from V14 load into Quicktime for windows, but show only black for video (audio works ok), files created with V12.5.4.019 will show video OK in Quicktime.

Fusion 8.2 build 2 won't open the V14 files at all, drag & drop will not create a loader in the flow, and loading manually into a loader shows no file name in the tool panel after a bit of thinking, and won't display anything in a viewer.
Console shows 'loader failed at time 0', so no clues there.
It will however happily load DNxHD / HR files created in V12.5.4.019.

Syntheyes is not happy with the V14 files either, shows only a white screen, but happily shows the video from a V12.5 encoded DNxHD / HR file.

I've created a couple of Mov files in the two versions, both 3 seconds of video & audio (different sources as I'm delaying putting V14 on my Z800 yet), please can someone have a look & see if they get the same results in windows...

Davinci 12.5 file-

Davinci 14 Beta 2 file-

I'm going to re-boot into OSX and see what Quicktime makes of the files in Mac OS...

OSX much the same results, Quicktime shows only black but plays the audio on the V14 files, works OK video & audio wise with the V12.5 files.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Peter, had a look on my Macbook Air OSX 10.12.3 and installed the Avid codecs V 2.7.3 and I'm still getting black in Quicktime on the Davinci 14 file...

Do you know what version of the Avid codecs you have on your Mac? And is it working in Quicktime 10 or the old legacy quicktime player?

I'm a bit stumped: I also tried playing the files on another Windows box, an old ASUS i7 laptop, and am getting the same results as all my other machines.

As an aside VLC player opens the files on both Windows & Mac.

Thanks for looking anyway!

Windows 10 x64 here. Both files play OK in VLC, MPC-HC and MPV players. But neither play in QT 7.7.8 for Windows, which I had to install with a custom installer:

Thanks Freddy & Brian

Have either of you tried encoding DNxHD or DNxHR files in windows with Davinch v14 yet?
And if you have, do your DNxwhatever Movs behave the same as my ones?

I'm holding off installing Davinci V14 on my Z800 for the moment, as this issue will force me to use the Cineform codec to be able to share clips with other programs, even Fusion! And I find that Cineform is about twice as slow to encode in Davinci as DNxHD...

I've rolled back to 12.5.5 (free) for now (due to stability issues), but in my short-lived forays into 14 beta1 and 2, I did test export to DNxHD and DNxHR HQX and there were no such issues with the rendered files.

Hi Mark,

there are many problems with the rendered file DNxHR if use with some programs.
In many cases the file is unreadable or without video or video is black.
Confirm your problems here.

The same was to me - white blank files in Premiere (Windows 10). I managed to avoid this issue by turning on one of Presets - Vimeo 720 for example. Then changed codec manually. Save as new preset.
It worked for me by now.
