Crashes when Rendering at 29.97 fps but not 23.97

PostSun Jun 11, 2017 3:22 am

Resolve crashes when trying to render a clip SHOT AT 29.97 on a 29.97 fps timeline as quicktime h.264 at 29.97 fps.

However, if I render it as 23.97 it renders without crashing.

My clip is 1920 X 1080 shot at 29.97fps

Timeline is set to 29.97

I can export as quicktime h.264 23.976 fine

I can render at 24fps fine

I suspect it is some setting with my timeline, because I created a NEW project, and added that same clip to the new project timeline (and allowed Resolve to change the timeline settings to match the clip), and now it exports fine at 29.97. So I don't know what setting before was causing problems.

But if I try to select 29.97 in the frame rate dropdown box then 3:2 is appended to it, so it looks like this:

29.97 3:2

And if I select that, once it starts rendering, it crashes. I get a red Failed message in the render queue area and I am basically locked out of resolved.

Thanks in advance.

Is the 30fps footage an embedded 24p stream?

I am not sure what exactly that means.

When I click on the inspector it says that it is 29.970

I do notice something strange about the two different projects (the one that DOESN'T work and the one that does):

First Project: (The one that doesn't render at 29.97 fps):
In preferences, Under Video Monitoring, I have Video Fromat set to HD 1080p 29.97

Second Project: (the one that DOES render at 29.97 fps)
In preferences, under Video Monitoring, when I added the Media to the timeline, Resolve automatically changed the Video Monitoring to HD 1080i 59.94

But... my clip is 1080p 29.97.

And if I go into the first project (the one that doesn't render at 29.97 fps) and then change the Video Monitoring to to HD 1080i 59.94 (to match the second project that DOES work), then I still can't render it at 29.97

For some reason some setting I have is forcing it to go into 3:2 aspect ratio at 29.97 in my first project (but not my second project which uses the same source footage).

It is often called PsF and is seen often with older generation cameras.

Basically they record 24p but wrap it into an 60i interlaced format.

What camera recorded your source and do you have the settings?

It was a Nikon D750 and properties under window explorer says 29 frames per second.

The inspector in Resolve says 29.97 fps.

That should be straight forward H.264 format.
Is it possible to upload a small clip using dropbox that shows the problem?

Here is a link to the clip:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b322ilho78yob ... 1.MOV?dl=0

If that doesn't work, then maybe this link will allow you to download it:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wsrnpnv7e1hy ... V3xaa?dl=0

Please note that while my voice over says 60p, it is actually 29.97

Again, the thing seems to be my DEFAULT timeline settings are messed up. If when I add media I allow Resolve to change timeline settings to match my media, then it works fine.

But if I DON'T ALLOW resolve to change the timeline settings to match the media, then I get the weired behavior.

So I just need to know WHICH timeline settings I need to change.

Thanks.

The footage is fine and straight 29.97 and worked fine for me.

If your setting shows "29.97 3:2" that seems to indicate to me it is 24p wrapped in interlaced footage. I have not worked with that for a long time and I do not even know if that is currently supported by Resolve. But clearly that option should not be your default.

If you change it and go to the Project Settings page and navigate to the Presets and right click on the project you can update the current new settings to the default project.
