Hi,
It seems to me that is already said in the forum:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=62001#p352325Note for DiskDB users: DaVinci Resolve 14.0b6 requires DiskDB upgrade from any previous version. We recommend that you backup your existing database before performing an upgrade. Once you upgrade the database, you will be able to access the projects from older versions. The best solution: go back to the old version and export its projects one by one.
Then install the V14B6: create a new database and then import its .drp one by one.
(This is what I do and no issue.) In addition, I can go back to an old version of DR V14.x when I want and I leave from my backup.

how exactly should i upgrade the database? i deleted everything completely, like a fresh install.
@Daz Woood: previous beta versions worked fine (apart from some bugs)

before installing, i deleted everything resolve-related. including hidden folders, projects etc.
i even watched the welcome tour for karma sake.

You deleted: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve and C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve?
Run C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\CaptureLogs, post the log file to a file sharing site and provide a link to the file here.

i used the uninstaller to delete the most files, then i deleted the project files in //programdata manually.
here's a link to the log files:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_Y9D ... VBiVmg5QU0(this is after i re-installed it)

If you don't have any project data you care about, then use the Windows Uninstaller, to remove Resolve.
Then delete:
C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve
C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve
Then reinstall.

Try beta 8 and send a log from that if it still crashes.

Hi Rick,
I do not know if it matters:
- have you tried by disabling the firewall (s)?
- when DR stops, in windows 10 logs, there is one or more events recorded at the same time (+ - 2 minutes) about V14B9 or security messages?

i disabled the firewall, but no result.
Im not sure how i should check the logs, but i found the event viewer, i just dont see anything relevant.
It still crashes after the message ''looking for control surface''
I just borrowed a control surface (tangent wave), just to check if it helped, but still nothing.

OK. It is better to wait for the result of BMD.

yeah, i can't wait though.. the features look so promising its almost painful to see how everyone is using it. i contacted the bmd technical support about 2 weeks ago, and they sent it to the development team.
Im pinning my hopes on the final release

Hi Rick
I finally found the root cause of my problems with Resolve crashing on "Looking for control surface":
My Lenovo laptop by default uses a Conexant audio driver, and whenever that was in use Resolve would hang, while Resolve would start up perfectly when the laptop was connected to a docking station using a separate audio driver. I know from previous times that Conexant audio drivers can cause problems but simply didn't make the link for Resolve before now.
My solution was to uninstall the Conexant driver and use the standard Microsoft "High Definition Audio Device" driver instead; Resolve now starts stably under all the conditions I have tested. This works under Windows 8.1, but may not work reliably under Windows 10 set for automatic driver update/replacement.
You are probably using another set of device drivers, but it might be worthwhile trying to disable them one at a time to see if there is a conflict.
Good luck,
Niels

im monitoring trough the blackmagic decklink, so my windows settings are all set to ''blackmagic audio''.
i disabled it but no luck. i also uninstalled blackmagic desktop video, installed an older version, etc.
did resolve 12 work for you when 14 didn't? when i install resolve 12 it works fine, but i want 14

Sorry to hear it didn't help.
Yes, Resolve 12 always worked for me; the problem only arose with Resolve 14.

Again a few weeks later now and i still do not have any lead..
I did a clean windows installation as last effort.
A lot of people on this forum and some of the blackmagic staff tried to help me with tips and tricks (which i want to thank), but it seems like its not going to work.
I'm not really a technician, although i know my way around in the pc/windows (10) world. The pc im working on is a stable workstation. no weird/illegal software installed, just the relevant tools for my needs.
Every other program works propery, from premiere/avid/protools to nuke/blender/3dsmax, and pretty much anything else i come across. I know it's not really fair to compare the rest vs resolve, but it still gives me some kind of lead where the problem lies.
I've come to the point where i'm willing to hire someone to fix the problem. Can anyone point me to an expert in these situations?

Can you provide another log with the release version installed?
You did a clean windows reinstall. Did you then do a clean Resolve install on that? Without trying to copy any existing Resolve projects or databases onto the clean system?
