Hello All,

I've tried searching and I couldn't find an answer to this yet. I have a small facility full of OS X Resolve 12.5.6 Studio machines on El Capitan, our server is a Facilis Terrablock where we are running version 6.5.5. We have a shared Database running on a mac mini. I'm in the process of slowly switching over to Windows and I've seen all kinds of tutorials showing how easy it is to run a prores file through remote rendering.

I've starting testing cross compatibility, and to my delight, when I open a mac project on a windows machine, everything is linked up and online automatically. However the opposite isn't true, opening a mac project on windows results in everything being offline until I switch the source folder. I guess that's fine, but since resolve doesn't warn you when media is offline I always worry about forgetting to relink a stray clip somewhere on another volume buried somewhere in the timeline. There's the offline clips feature in the edit index, but that does mean that every single project I want to render on the mac, has to be opened on a mac, changed source folder, saved and closed. So, it sort of counteracts the convenience of remote rendering.

I've seen that tutorial on mixing light where he just sends his windows project to a mac through remote rendering and it works perfectly and I've read through the article several times, but I don't think I'm missing anything on the setup. However, when I try it, resolve errors out telling me I don't have permission to write unless I force the file path to have no drive letter. On that tutorial, I did notice he had a drive letter in his output path, so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I'm running resolve as an admin and I've used remote rendering lots in our mac only environment so I'm wondering how people are able to use a mac as a remote rendering dongle from a windows machine without all the setup for ever project. Within Resolve, I've tried using mount points as well as using the automatically mounted drives and I get the same results.

Is it something to do with my NAS (the Terrablock) maybe? I've also tried on the windows side to mount my NAS volumes both as a drive letter and as a mount point through the "C:\Volumes\" folder and no luck there either. I know I must be missing something silly and simple, does anyone have any idea what? Sorry for the length I just wanted to be as specific as I reasonable can be.

Using Path Mapping to Access Volumes
from other Operating Systems
Shared media path mapping support for Mac, Linux and Windows makes it easier for multi-system shops to share Resolve projects among different platforms that use different file path conventions.
To add a mapped mount string:
1 Open the Media Storage panel of the Resolve Preferences window.
2 Add the volume you want to map to the Scratch Disks list.
3 Double-click the Mapped Mount column of the drive you added to edit it.
4 Enter the alternate file path you want that volume to have. For example, if you’re on a Windows workstation and you want to access a Linux volume, type the Linux file path into the Mapped Mount column.

You'll want to map the drive to it's network location, not to the mapped drive (i.e. DO USE: \\192.168.1.2\Drive ---- DO NOT USE: \\D:\)

When rendering out a clip to shared network storage, Windows does not seem to like rendering to the root of the drive. You'll need to select a directory on whatever network drive you're rendering to
